Since I am the younger generation in the family, the planning is usually done for me. I get told what to bring and when to show up. I can't wait for the day that I just get to stay home and have people come over bearing food and gifts. But I do enjoy not cooking the turkey.

Now that there is only my sister, living in Kansas City, and myself we can go up to a couple of days without any major planning. The big holidays, Xmas and T-giving, we do plan a little so she can get some groceries. When my pop was alive I use to go to his house for one and my sisters for the other. He lived in Arkansas. Now with just her and I it is real simple. She doesn't drive long distances so I am the one traveling. Gidts are not elaborate, just something small but thoughtful. We are both easy to buy for. So, planning for the holidays is real easy for my family.

I have planned my Dad's family reunion this past June in MO with over 100 attending and now co-chairing my Mom's which will be in Valley Center on Sat. p.m. and Sun. in Hutchinson expecting a huge count attending as well. My parents are from very large families, we have an auction with each family bringing an item for sale to pay for expenses. I'd love to win the "Family Gathering" set to include for the time of sharing and entertaining one another however, as my cousin said, we have no problems catching up with one another chatting away since we are all living across the U. S. My Mother and 2 younger sisters put on a skit for many years, very thing from the energizer bunnies, hula girls, clowns, etc. But it is time for the neice's and nephews (first cousin's) to think up ideas. I enjoy the small talk edition of the newspaper, keep up the great work! A dedicated reader, Linda Hickman

My family threw me a surprise party for my 50th.
I was completely shocked!

In addition to other local relatives, friends and neighbors, my sister flew in from Florida and my best friend (since we were four years old!) came from Omaha.

It was a total surprise! I had a great time!
I even wore my 50th crown all night!
