Where do you find your books?

“Fox in Socks” book coverIf you or your children love books, you know that there are endless places to find books: libraries, bookstores, used bookstores, online or even through more creative avenues, including bookcrossing.com, where members find and release books in the public.

Tell us where you find your books and why you prefer that method. Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of Dr. Seuss’ “Fox in Socks.” We’ll randomly select one winner.

Tell us how you coax your child into healthy habits, win a musical toothbrush

toothbrushEat your veggies. Go play outside. Don’t sit too close to the TV. Did you brush your teeth?

Parents try all kinds of tricks to get their kids to break bad habits and develop good ones. Hasbro has a new product that aims to do just that: Tooth Tunes. The music-playing toothbrush offers two minutes of music to let children (or adults) know whether they need to keep brushing those pearly whites. Music choices include songs from Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers Band, The Cheetah Girls and more. The toothbrushes retail for $10 to $15.

We have a toothbrush that plays “All For One” from “High School Musical 2″ and would like to give it away. We’ll randomly select someone who posts an answer to this question: How have you successfully coaxed or tricked your child into forming a healthy habit?

What local store window do you love?

women peeking in a store windowOne of the most fun parts about shopping is window shopping. (Jeans and swimsuits always fit that way, and cost isn’t a concern.) Wichita and surrounding communities have several stores that do a fabulous job of dressing up their windows with funky furniture, gorgeous gowns and other consumer eye candy.

What store window do you look forward to seeing on a daily or weekly basis? What do you love about the display or the featured merchandise? We’re collecting information on store windows for a possible WichiTalk story. So please click on “comments” and tell us your favorite.

What do you want for graduation?

graduate.jpgFriends and Newman had their graduations Saturday, Wichita State University’s graduation is this week, and high school ceremonies are underway, as well.

Money is a common gift request from grads, especially high school students headed to college. Need other ideas? Here are a few:

  • Jewelry
  • Frames (for graduation photos)
  • Laptop bag
  • Luggage
  • Novelty luggage tag

One creative gift I received when I graduated from high school was an oversized bath towel. In college, I used it in the shower and as a durable (and easy-to-wash) picnic blanket. Eleven years later, I’ve used it to towel off my two golden retrievers after their bath.

Do you have any gift ideas for the grad?

What was your most extravagant wedding detail?

BrideToday’s WichiTalk cover story shares tips and anecdotes from local residents who had or plan to have simple, inexpensive weddings.

But now we’re curious what lavish touches local residents have included in their wedding plans. Did you pay big bucks for a designer gown? Have an expensive floral arrangement on every table at the reception? Custom order favors for all of your 500 guests?

We want to hear about your simple wedding

brideAt a time of extreme weddings, WichiTalk wants to hear about local weddings that cut the excess and kept it simple.

Have you said “I do” at the Sedgwick County Courthouse in the presence of a couple of close friends? Are you planning an uncomplicated backyard summer ceremony?

Did you have a wedding that cost you next to nothing, with an afternoon that featured your favorite homemade cake, a stylish — but simple — sundress and your brother, the amateur photographer?

We want to hear about local couples that have bucked — or plan to buck — the ever-rising costs of weddings.

Where do you put your $1 to good use?

dollar billIn addition to dollar stores (we have at least 37 in the Wichita area), several area stores (Targets included) have an aisle, an endcap or a place devoted to $1 merchandise.

Have you found an area store where your buck has a lot of buying power? What’s your best $1 find?

At a local dollar store, I once found adorable baby socks, bibs, lotions and other baby supplies. At a baby shower, I gave a friend who was expecting her first baby the items in a laundry basket, which I also found for $1. She was able to use the laundry basket to transport her many gifts home, and then later in her nursery.

Time to consign

dress.jpgConsignment sales are a gem for parents who want to save money by purchasing gently used children’s clothing, toys, furniture and more. They also offer families a chance to make money off children’s items they no longer need.

Check out our list of upcoming sales, which was in today’s WichiTalk.
