Where does your pet sleep?

sleeping dogDo you let Fido sleep on your futon? Does he have his own puppy pad to sleep on? Or is he an outside-only pooch?

At night, Dakota, the older of my two golden retrievers, will come into my bedroom and growl at me if he is wound up and is still wanting to play. Usually a good pet will settle him down. It also helps me unwind and get ready for a good night’s sleep. One of his favorite places to crash? The bathtub. I think it feels nice and cool to him.If you have any funny stories or animal anecdotes to share about where your pet sleeps, click on “comments.”

I added another dog to the family which meant I needed a bigger bed…and a bigger car; fortunately the house/yard was just right!

My 11 month old Shih Tzu sleeps in her cage. She barks when she is ready to get up - usually around 7:30am. Her sleeping there grants a good nights sleep to both of us. She feels secure and I know she is not out running around the house and TPing my living room:)

Our dogs sleep in the utility room, where we put a nice dog bed for Juliet, our Italian Greyhound. She slept everywhere but the bed. She usually ended up in the trash can full of plastic sacks to recycle, but also loved a dryer full of clothes if we left the door open. We didn’t want her in the dryer or the recycling, so we compromised and gave her a large plastic box with a pillow and blanket, which she loves!

Our springer spaniel used to sleep at the foot of our bed. When my husband bought me a new comforter for Christmas one year, I decided she needed to stay off of it. I bought her a “dog bed”. She just looked at it and looked at me and jumped right back up on the bed. I had a bench at the end of my bed and put the dog bed on it. It worked. She still felt like she was close enough to us. Over time, she was used to the dog bed and we were able to move it on to the floor. Regardless if we are ready to go to bed, if she is she goes to her bed - and takes her “baby” with her - a stuffed hippopotamus that she has had for about 5-6 years.

Which one?!? We have 4 labs in the house right now — 2 yellows that we own, and a yellow and a chocolate that we are fostering for Heartland Lab Rescue. Queen Ellie has free run of the house at night — she usually stays in our room except if there’s a storm when she heads for the basement! Princess Maddie, 11 mos., sleeps on the floor by our bed. The fosters, Naoni and Dixie, have kennels in our room. Naoni is reliable enough to sleep with the door open. Dixie would prefer to jump up on the bed with us if the kennel door is open. Only Ellie gets us up in the night to go out, but all the girls are usually ready to be outside by 6:30 in the morning. And I wonder why my friends call me the Looney Lab Lady!!!
