What’s the best thing about living alone?

Live Alone and Like It coverIn 1936, Marjorie Hillis wrote “Live Alone and Like It,” a bestselling book dedicated to celebrating “bachelor ladies,” single women who live alone. Hillis, who worked for Vogue magazine for more than 20 years, died in 1971. But a new edition of her book has been released this month (5 Spot, $14).

The book addresses the importance of having a hobby that you can keep at home, entertaining at your home and more. The new edition features a preface by Laurie Graff, chick lit author of “You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs.”

We’d like to give away a copy to someone who answers this question: What do you like most about living alone? We’ll randomly select a participant at 5 p.m. June 10.

I love that I can do whatever I want, whenever I want! If I make a mess, nobody tells me to clean it up! If I feel like eating icecream for dinner, I can! If I want to take a really, really long shower, it’s fine because I don’t have to save hot water for anybody else! It’s beautiful!

First, all the germs in the apartment are mine alone.
Second, I can fill the fridge to its capacity without regard for anyone else’s needs.
Third, I can walk through the place in any state of dress I desire.
Fourth, if my alarm blares for an hour while I sleep through it, it doesn’t bother anyone.
Fifth, I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want to on TV.
Sixth, it’s just the best ever invented. Why would anyone want to live with other people? That’s just crazy!

Having absolute control of one’s home environment is the very best thing about living alone. Deciding what room temperature suits your whim and/or budget..fire it up or freeze..all your choice.
And…what can be better than running your own game plan.
And…living a gypsy life is the best…go and come as you like…eat and drink as you choose…sleep or wake to your own clock.

Best thing about living alone is the ability to schedule rewards or pleasures at a time when I can most enjoy them, rather than being caught off-guard at the “wrong” time for me. When I try to please other people by going along with their times for pleasure, I sometimes make myself unhappy.

The best thing(s) about living alone is I do not have to share a bathroom, a closet, or my inheritance!

I have been on my own and by myself since I was 18. I love the fact that I am totally independent and responsible only to and for myself. I answer to know one but me. Once in a while we have heated discussion, but I usually end up winning. Maybe that sounds selfish, but I love it and would not have it any other way.

I have to agree with all the comments posted already. Having the freedom to do, say, eat, sleep and everything else without having to check with a partner first is absolute heaven. It’s nice to have a partner/roommate sometimes when you wish you had someone to talk to or share responsibilities with but that passes when you really think about it. I am married now and really miss not having to think about what “he” might be wanting to do or say. Maybe it sounds selfish to some people but I’d prefer my freedom without answering to someone elses” needs.

The greatest things about living alone is being able to do what I want when I want and not having to suffer the criticism of the other party.

To paraphrase an old saying - I’ve lived together and I’ve lived alone and alone is better! You know when you set something down on the table as you’re walking out the door, it will still be there when you get home. I thought I would get lonely sometimes, but no!! I love me!! and I love spending time with me!

The best thing about living alone is having less stress and worries in your life. There is a sence of freedom in your life that you probably never have experienced before. You have more choices and living alone is much cheeper than living with someone. You have alot of time on your hands to think about life and put your life in order if it is out of order.
