Got milk … and a shortcut cookie recipe?

cookie.jpgCookie confession: A few years ago, I finally embraced the baking shortcut that is prepared cookie dough. A co-worker and his family were moving, and I wanted to bake a batch of cookies to send them off. (My husband’s family has a made-from-scratch sugar cookie recipe that is to die for.) Bit I ran out of time and instead grabbed a package of ready-to-bake cookies from the grocery store. I baked them in 12 minutes, stacked them on a plate and handed them over, a bit ashamed of myself. But when the co-worker called later for the recipe (”My son loved them!”), I admitted what I’d done and convinced myself that, at times, home-baked cookies can be just as good as homemade cookies.

Check out Wednesday’s WichiTalk cover story to find sweet and savory recipes that use prepared dough. And, if you have a recipe for dressing up prepared dough, please share it here. Who knows: I might need a quick batch the next time a friend has something to celebrate.

I admit I love cookies but hate making them. Frozen/premade cookie dough is the greatest thing since sliced bread…even uncooked!! My kid eats it uncooked. Using the chocolate chip or peanut butter dough, press a small amount into

The cookie will continue baking surround the outside of the peanutbutter cup. These are yummy and look like you worked hard, but didnt!

I have to be the dissenter here and say I get an off taste from prepared dough. I keep a bag of chocolate chips in the freezer, and I can have a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven within 10 minutes - just enough time to have the oven preheat. How is that more trouble than using the premade dough?

Now cakes, on the other hand, I doctor up cake mixes rather than make them from scratch all the time.
