Cloth vs. disposable: What’s your diaper philosophy?

diapered babyThe debate between cloth and disposable diapers is by no means a new one. But with increased awareness about green living, new developments in cloth diapers and rising prices of disposable diapers, some parents are revisiting the issue.

Which do you prefer? Or do you use both to cut down on waste while taking advantage of convenience?

It really comes down to time and commitment. If mom or dad is a stay-at-home then cloth may be more cost effective. If mom and dad work I doubt grandma wants to keep little Billy’s poopy diaper for reuse.
Consumer staples: cigarettes, pop, and disposable diapers.

We used cloth diapers for all three of our children - one is still in diapers. For the first one we used a diaper service, but then we moved here to Wichita and there isn’t one so we wash our own. With a diaper service, cloth diapering is actually easier than disposable since all the suppplies are delivered right to your door.

The “new” styles of cloth diapers are wonderful! My daughter is 15 months old and has maybe had a dozen disposables on her in her whole life. I have not had a problem with my in-home daycare using them- she just puts them in a waterproof bag called a wetbag and sends them home with me at the end of the day. To cut down on energy costs, I hang my diapers outside on the line when the weather is suitable. For me, it is easier and less time consuming to start a load of laundry than to go pick up a package of diapers!
To spread my love of cloth diapering, I also started a web based cloth diaper retail business. The website is: wwww.bloominbottoms.com
