Baby TV: What do you think?

The Washington Post reports that an estimated 43 percent of babies younger than 1 watch television every day, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Do television programming for babies give parents a valuable method to spend time with their children? Or is it just hooking kids on TV at an early age? Tell us what you think by clicking on "comments" below.

Best and worst at Oscar

Sometimes I wish for the old days when some of the stars made really bad choices when it came to what to wear to the Academy Awards. At least this year most people wore a color other than black.
The biggest error I’ve seen: People chewing gum.

OK, let’s decide on our favorite dresses:
My choices would be: Jennifer Lopez in the jeweled Marchesa, Jodie Foster in the smoky blue  chiffon, Celine Dion’s  green vintage James Galanos, Reese Witherspoon’s black diagonally tiered dress and one you may not agree with me on, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Zac Posen.  It might not be her best color, but what wonderful detail. Naomi Watt’s pale yellow gown was lovely too. My favorite of all of them, however, was Cate Blanchett’s fabulous gown by Giorgio Armani Prive.
Celine Dion changed her gown when it came time to perform, wearing a stunning satin and chiffon gown that puddled around her as she sang. Wonder which dress she wore to party through the night?

Those who could have chosen better looks:
Meryl Streep’s outfit and ethnic-looking necklace didn’t cut it for a glitzy night. The beautiful Catherine Deneuve  wore a dress by John Paul Gaultier that looked like she had been stabbed with a tiny sword that embellished her bodice. Jennifer Hudson’s dress was fine, but the metallic bolero, all by Oscar de la Renta, looked like she was channeling Elvis. She took the bolero off when she went up to accept the award for best supporting actress. I could hardly concentrate on her because presenter George Clooney looked so gorgeous.

It was fun to see Jerry Seinfeld again. He was one of few in a double-breasted tux and bow tie. And he was funny as usual.

Al Gore gave his wife a big smack on the mouth when "An Inconvenient Truth" won for best documentary. He then accepted the award with lipstick on his mouth. I don’t know if you could see it If you weren’t watching on HD television.

And now, dear bloggers, I’m going to sign off and have some champagne.

Glamour girls — and guys

Jack Nicholson has shaved his head and I’m afraid it’s not his best look.  Just look at the trend Britney has started.

Jessica Biel was one of the few who chose a bright color. Her Oscar de la Renta gown was hot pink.

OK, enough with the sound guys and the mixers and all that. Sometimes I think it’s better to not know everything about how a movie is made. It sorta takes the magic out of the movies, don’t you think?

So far I think Jennifer Lopez has the most stunning dress by Marchesa , but Rachel Weisz’s dress by Vera Wang also is something not to be believed. She wore  vintage jewels from Cartier. She really didn’t need that big honking necklace.

Cameron Diaz’s dress walked better than anyone’s so far. It flared at all the right places as she strolled to the microphone. When she stood still the white Valentino looked architectural.

Al Gore  has gained weight, but he still looked great in his tuxedo and was  funny to boot.

As I’m watching for the clothes, four fellow viewers are counting the ballots sent in by Eagle readers. Someone wins $100 if they win first place.

Wonder if Beyonce knows she’s giving a leg show sitting in the front row?

My research team here, (heh heh) found out that Zac Posen did Gwyneth Paltrow’s gown. Now you know.

My, my, Tom Hanks is looking sooooo good.

Hail Hollywood!

The beautiful Penelope Cruz. Such a little woman, such a biggggg dress. Perhaps Donatella Versace could have clued her in.

Will Smith showed up in one of the few bow ties.
Cameron Diaz has on earrings that would turn even Liz Taylor’s head.

Cate Blanchett said "frocks like this choose you." A dress by Armani Prive has never chosen me, but I’ll keep hoping.

When I said I thought Reese Witherspoon looks sad, my fellow viewers said they think she’s just trying to look really hot so her ex-husband will suffer. I hope they’re right.

I’m watching on HDTV and boy, does it make a difference on the crow’s feet. No wonder the star’s hate the idea of high definition. Kate Winslet had some wrinkles, but darned if Nicole Kidman doesn’t still look perfect. Grrrrrr.
Peter O’Toole, however, looks to be just this side of mummified.

We knew Ellen wouldn’t wear a dress of any kind, and her burgundy tuxedo was great with her white patent shoes. Somehow for Ellen it works.

I bet about now some of those women wearing corset dresses wish they had chosen  a baby doll style.  No doubt Spanx sales have been up.

Alan Arkin,  Clint Eastwood, and Peter O’Toole were three charming guys who were having a difficult time hearing .Imagine that!

Bonnie on Oscar’s Fashions

It’s fun and frustrating to watch the stars arrive and hear the stupid questions asked by the reporters. It seems that many of the lovely ladies chose pale shades of blush, platinum and  dove  gray .
Personally I love Ca’te Blanchett’s dress in pewter.
When it comes to color, don’t you like Celine Dion’s green?
Lots of jewels and not all of them are on jewelry. Several stars and dates of stars wore dresses with big stones on the gown. The best example would be Jennifer Lopez in the empire waisted dress that is probably vintage.
Helen Mirren has been on the award circuit and has looked great for every one of them. Her white dress had sleeves and still managed to look very sexy.

The one-shoulder looks were all over the place.
Nicole Kidman, one of the palest, most beautiful creatures you would ever want to see, was being worn by a red dress with a bow the size of her head on one of her narrow shoulders.
The dress seemed to wear her. Too bad she didn’t choose pale green as Beyonce, and also Kate Winslet.
Kate’s dress by Valentino didn’t flatter her bustline, but she looked beautiful.

Abigail Breslikn looked like a little princess beaming in a pink dress with a flower on the neckline.

Meryl Streep is such a good actress she wears what she darn well pleases, and on this particular night she could have used a little help from a friendly stylist. A little more glam.

Reese Witherspoon wasn’t flashing her famous smile, but her tiered black dress looks great.

Rest assured there will be a lot of tired earlobes Monday morning. The earrings were chandeliers straight from Harry Winston’s ceiling.

Hair-raising Britney Spears headlines

I first heard about Britney Spears shaving her head from a friend in a gossipy "Did you hear?!" conversation. Then I saw the story about her shaved head and new tattoo online, on TV, in The Eagle and in other publications. Then came today’s news update about how eBay bidders can buy her snipped-off hair for $1 million.

What do you think about the star’s new look? Do you care? Do you think it’s just a cry for attention?

What’s your perfect peanut butter sandwich?

With all the hype surrounding the news last week of the salmonella outbreak that’s been linked to peanut butter, a few of us were comparing notes on what kind of peanut butter we prefer and how our moms prepared peanut butter sandwiches when we were children. The variety included natural peanut butter on whole wheat bread; sugary peanut butter on white bread made even sweeter with powdered sugar; and peanut-butter-and-pickle sandwiches.

What are your recipes, tips and tricks for the perfect peanut butter sandwich? Click on "comments" below to share.

How do we watch TV? Let me count the ways

TV lovers have so many options when it comes to watching favorite shows. There’s the old fashion practice of parking on a couch at the precise moment your TV show is on. There’s TiVo. The Internet. Cell phones. DVDs.

And there also are ways to accentuate your viewing experience. For example, I like to download a weekly podcast that tells the behind-the-scenes story about each new episode of my favorite TV show, "Scrubs."
