Mingling with fashionistas

Today is this year’s Day No. 1 for Bonnie at the Dallas Apparel Spring Market. There she’ll go to showrooms and talk to reps, buyers and designers to get a lead on what trends for spring will be. Here are her musings on this show compared to her annual New York fashion trips:

The big difference is that in Dallas everything is in one building, the enormous World Trade Center. In New York, a lot of the shows are in a huge tent in Bryant Park. Both trips are something I look forward to for many reasons, but even after 26 years, it’s still a bit confusing to look at spring fashions in October while working on the holiday fashion section and checking out fall fashions in February.

Another item on her agenda today is to get a few minutes with Carmen Marc Valvo, the eveningwear designer who is this year’s Dallas Fashion Award recipient.

I have only one thing in my closet that has his label in it. Talk about a good excuse for a new evening number.

More later.
