Stack up the fat

The latest fast food gut-buster? Burger King’s BK Stackers. The company’s Web site says it all:

Choose from double, triple or quadruple layers of beef and cheese — topped with bacon and sauce. It’s the flame-broiled meat lover’s burger and it’s here to stay — no veggies allowed.

Yikes. Have you tried this? I checked Burger King’s online nutritional information, and it doesn’t include that burger. I’m not sure if I even want to know the fat and calorie count of that big boy.

What’s your back-to-school splurge?

I’m not a student. I don’t have any students in my immediate family. But when all of the fun back-to-school products hit the shelves, I love to browse at the new supplies and reminisce about that new-year feeling I always had as a child and even a college student.

I’ve already purchased a couple of fun and inexpensive spiral notebooks. I use them as journals and for to-do lists, shopping lists and more. The few I bought were only $1.50, but they felt like an indulgent treat.

Whether you’re a student, mom or working professional, are there any supplies, items or treats you buy for yourself when this time of year rolls around?

Oh, the scandal

Celebrity news items of the day:

1. Mel Gibson was arrested early Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the Associated Press.

2. Daniel Radcliffe will strip off his Harry Potter eyeglasses and robes for his London stage debut next year, according to the AP.

Do you love hearing about the latest in your favorite celeb’s life? Or do you get tired of the constant buzz around Hollywood’s biggest stars?

That’s amore

As I read through the emails that came in when we requested Wichita’s wild wedding proposals, I must admit that my inner romantic shed a happy tear or two. I just love hearing about perfect proposals…especially the ones that took a lot of effort and included the element of surprise.

How did you propose to your significant other - or vice versa? If you’re not engaged or married, how would you like to pop the question or have someone propose to you? Tell us all about it.

Sept. 11 movies: Too much too soon?

I have yet to see the Sept. 11th-based movie "Flight 93," although it’s just my busy schedule that’s kept me from it thus far. I have friends who refuse to see it, saying letting Hollywood benefit from a national disaster that’s not even five years old is not right.

Have you seen "Flight 93"? What was your reaction?

I’m guessing people’s opinions on this topic will surface even more with another Sept. 11th-based movie due out soon. It’s "World Trade Center" starring Nicholas Cage, who plays a rescuer and one of the last to escape one of the crumbling towers. My co-worker and Eagle movie buff Bob Curtright says it’ll be showing starting Aug. 11.

Timely tribute or horrible Hollywood move?

Where is it OK to wear your swimsuit?

It’s not record-breaking heat, but it’s still hot out. The newest YMCA outdoor pool opened days ago. Summer break is winding down. So I’m supportive of people headed to pools.

But in the last few weeks I’ve often seen people wearing swimsuits where maybe they shouldn’t: grocery stores, gas stations, etc.

Are there places people should cover up? Or is it summer and the time to show some skin?

With this ring …

Forget the diamond. Do you have a nontraditional wedding ring? Perhaps one of Black Hills gold, funky turquoise or inexpensive — but extremely sentimental — silver?

Or have you decided not to wear a wedding ring? Tell us about it.

Do you love NYC or Wichita?

Which do you hold closer to your heart: Greenwich Village or Greenwich Road?

You may have heard that Wichita was recently ranked No. 9 on Money Magazine’s list of Top 10 Best Big Cities. But what’s even more eye-opening than Wichita’s ranking is that it was ranked above No. 10 New York City.

Tell us why you prefer Wichita or New York City. And check out the WichiTalk story in Thursday’s paper comparing the two.
