What’s your favorite Web site?

Web surfing is so addictive. But we all have our favorite pages. One of mine is www.newseum.org, where you can see today’s front pages from newspapers across the world. Pretty cool, even if you’re not a news hound.

What’s your favorite site? Tell us about it so we can check it out.

If the shoe fits . . .

I have a difficult time finding a shoe that fits and is fun. The front part of my foot is medium width. My heel is narrow.

I’ve finally learned that if a shoe doesn’t fit in the store, it isn’t going to be transformed into a shoe that fits at home.

Any ideas on where to find a shoe to fit? And do you have your own shoe horror story? Share it with us!

Happy feet

Ahhhh…’tis the season to let your feet breathe. I dug out my flip flops and sandals several weeks ago, and my sock drawer hasn’t seen much action since then. But there is oneissue I had to deal with before doning my toes for all to see: winter feet.

My feet were in need of a little TLC after being confined to shoes and socks all winter, but I didn’t
have the extra money to head to the salon or spa for a professional pedicure. The solution? I doctored my feet at home.

Do you give yourself pedicures at home? If so, what are some of your tips for a home pedi-pampering session? Share your recommendations here, and we may contact you for an upcoming WichiTalk story.

What’s too sexy for work?

What clothing do you think crosses the too-sexy-for-work line? No sleeves, no pantyhose, higher hemlines, lower necklines, scooped backs?

And what are your tips for dressing appropriately when the mercury rises? An acquaintance of mine once told me that she uses this rule: If her mom stopped by her work unexpectedly, would Mom be appalled at what she was wearing? I guess you also could ask yourself that if a photographer with the company newsletter came by your desk unannounced to snap your picture, would you be horrified and want to run home to change?

I still want to fly

The "X-Men" (and women) are back for a last stand, which has me thinking about super powers.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to be able to fly. I’d use my power for good, not evil, of course.

How about you? What superpower have you always wanted?

For once, scrapbook about YOU

Today’s WichiTalk cover story features a recent scrapbooking trend toward more personal, intimate albums.

I started a "Pieces of Me" book recently that I hope will provide my children (and future grandchildren??) a more complete look at my life — my childhood, my hopes, my fears, my dreams.

If you scrapbook, have you completed — or at least considered — a similar theme album?? Tell us about it. (I’m looking for some inspiration.) :-)

And speaking of inspiration, be sure to look here for all kinds of page and album ideas.

What’s on your menu this weekend?

Do you kick off summer each year with a Memorial Day food tradition, whether it’s part of a backyard cookout, picnic lunch or dinner party? Tell us about it — and if you’re willing, share your recipe.

A few of my favorites are homemade lemonade and crostini with fresh tomatoes and basil.

If you’re looking for some good grill-worthy recipes, check out two  chicken recipes (for beer butt chicken and brick chicken) in Wednesday’s WichiTalk.

Idol thoughts

So America, who’s going to be our next Idol: Taylor or Katharine? Even those who haven’t been following the show closely should have had a difficult not to find the final two contestants compared on television, radio and (of course) in the pages of WichiTalk with today’s story by Bob Lutz.

An interesting argument I heard this morning said that Katharine is in love with the idea of being a famous "American Idol" while Taylor actually is in love with music. Do you agree?

If you plan to watch tonight’s performances, post your reaction here. Did you love it? Hate it? Are you sick of the hype?

My favorite things

I never know what to give to someone who’s in the hospital. But I know two gifts that meant a lot to me:

The first was 19 red roses from my husband, to celebrate our son’s birth (he was born on the 19th - and my husband was delighted it wasn’t any later in the month!). The sweet scent perfumed the room, and I dried several as a memento.

The second was a warm-up suit from my in-laws, when I was in an out-of-state hospital for a burst appendix. The soft lining and elastic waistband of the pants made the trip home much more comfortable than it might have been.

Have you given or received a gift that made a difference in a hospital stay? Share your inspirations with the rest of us!

Moving right along

Preparing for a move has got to be one of the most enlightening experiences. Why enlightening, you ask? Because you find out exactly how much stuff you have in your house, and you wonder how on earth you ever found room for all of it.

My mom, sister and I are getting ready to move next week, and the past several weeks havebeen spent sorting through one room at a time to decide what goes into a box and what goes to charity.

We have a closet in the basement that’s probably been opened three or four times in the 15 years we’ve lived in our house. I went through it on Saturday night and found lots of treasures…and my nose unfortunately found lots of dust. There were books from when my mom and dad were in grade school and high school, my dad’s record collection and a set of do-it-yourself books from the early 80s. But my favorite discovery was the pile of books my sister and I used to read during church when we were little. Looking through the prayer books and bible stories brought back tons of memories.

Have you been preparing for a move or a garage sale and found treasures among the junk? Or have you found just plain weird stuff buried in storage rooms and wondered where it came from?
