The expiration of emergency unemployment insurance benefits on Dec. 28 already has taken about $1.5 million out of the pockets of 4,400 Kansans, according to Democrats on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. Nationwide, about 1.3 million people lost about $400 million in weekly benefits when Congress didn’t renew the Federal Unemployment Compensation program.
