Kansas ranked 42nd in the nation in teacher pay last year, according to estimates from the National Center for Education Statistics. The average pay for Kansas teachers was $47,464 during the 2012-13 school year. Kansas understandably pays less than states with higher costs of living, but it also trails many other Midwestern states – and is moving in the wrong direction. Kansas ranked 41st in teacher pay in the 2011-12 school year and was 39th in the 2009-10 school year, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.
