As a member of the leadership team of House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Rep. Lynn Jenkins, R-Topeka, predictably was among the 87 GOP House members who voted for the compromise that reopened the government last week – and at odds with the three other Kansans in the House. She suggested to the Topeka Capital-Journal that the 285-144 vote wasn’t an accurate reflection of the true feelings in her caucus. “The majority of the majority in the House agreed it was time to end this, but to be perfectly candid many of our members did not want to vote for it because they were focused on re-election,” Jenkins said. “They wanted the resolution to pass, but they just did not want to vote for it.” Is it any wonder that people think so little of politicians in general and members of Congress in particular?
