The GOP House is expected to vote Friday on yet another attempt to defund Obamacare. This time, House Republicans are linking it to continued funding of the federal government, setting up the real possibility of a government shutdown. How they think this strategy will succeed and help their party politically is a mystery. “Any strategy to repeal, delay or replace the law must have a credible chance of succeeding or affecting broad public opinion positively,” political strategist Karl Rove wrote. “The defunding strategy doesn’t.” A Wall Street Journal editorial argued that House Republicans are pretending “to have ‘leverage’ that exists only in the world of town hall applause lines and fundraising letters.”
