Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., has long said he’ll run for a fourth term. But the office of the 76-year-old senator is getting the question a lot now that the 2012 election is over and 2014 forecasting has begun. “He is running,” a Roberts spokeswoman told Politico. Even if a challenger emerged, success is highly unlikely. As conservative blogger Dustin Hawkins wrote, “Pat Roberts easily won with 60 percent of the vote in his last outing and will be safe in this deep red state.” A more immediate question is whether Roberts will retain his stature in January as top-ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee. “I intend to stay,” Roberts told Politico last month. But Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., is expected to challenge him for the top spot.
