GOP divisions will test Moran

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Jerry Moran, R-Kan., is sure to be tested by the GOP’s divisions. He’s already seen scrutiny of a staffer’s hastily deleted tweet, which had said the senator was pleased to hear Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., would run for Senate in 2014. (Many conservatives view Capito as too moderate.) Moran later said he was unaware of the tweet, and that it reflected his comments to a reporter, but Politico’s Charlie Mahtesian called it “Moran’s baptism by fire.” Moran said: “We’re going to on a race-by-race, state-by-state basis, try to figure out what is the best role the NRSC can play in getting Republicans elected.”
