Wagle would make history for Wichita, women

The largest city in Kansas has never seen one of its own chosen to be president of the Kansas Senate (nor has a Wichitan served as speaker of the Kansas House since Dale Bryant in 1949-50). So state Sen. Susan Wagle, R-Wichita, will make history for her community if she wins the Senate presidency – a candidacy already endorsed by Gov. Sam Brownback and U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran. Wagle also would be the first woman to lead a chamber of the Legislature. First, Wagle must win re-election on Nov. 6 against Democrat Patrick Cantwell. Wagle already can be congratulated on some sweet victory – her second triumph over cancer, after going through chemotherapy over the summer for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
