Mitt Romney’s decision to pick Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as his running mate keeps the focus of his campaign on federal spending and the economy, which is where it needs to be to beat President Obama. However, it also opens up his campaign to criticisms about Ryan’s budget plan that would remake Medicare and cut $5.3 trillion in government spending over the coming decade.
