Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, is sponsoring the latest round of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s “YouCut” program, which allows citizens to vote online on which of three spending programs they would most like to see eliminated. The options Pompeo has proposed are eliminating the Economic Development Administration at the Department of Commerce (which he says could potentially save $2.5 billion over 10 years), eliminating a federal subsidy for opening new grocery stores and supermarkets ($310 million over 10 years), and repealing the Social Services Block Grant ($17 billion over 10 years). The “winning” program is moved through the legislative process so lawmakers can vote on eliminating it. “We’ve got plenty of cutting to do, and we need your input,” Pompeo said in a statement.
