Another terrible shooting in Colorado

Details are still unfolding about the horrible shooting during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado. According to federal law enforcement officials, the suspected gunman is 24-year-old James Holmes, a former medical student. Twelve people died and an estimated 50 others were injured.

Brownback still struggling in polling

Just 36 percent of Kansans polled by SurveyUSA this week for KWCH, Channel 12, said they approved of the job Gov. Sam Brownback has been doing, while 48 percent said they disapproved of his job performance. That compares with 38 percent approval and 56 percent disapproval numbers in the state for President Obama. Meanwhile, the job-approval percentages this month for Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran were 35, 46 and 44 percent, respectively. Allies of the governor criticize SurveyUSA’s scientific polling for failing to be representative of the state demographically and politically. Brownback’s approval rating in the SurveyUSA polls peaked at 55 percent after he took office in January 2011, dipped to 40 percent by last fall, and has averaged 35 percent in the four polls so far this year.
