Denise Wren knows the program called Advancement Via Individual Determination about as well as she knows the Wichita school district, so it’s not a surprise that San Diego-based AVID would hire Wren and put her expertise to work helping underachieving students far beyond Wichita reach for college. But Wren’s exit from the district July 31 will end an era. Wren, chief operating officer for the district and runner-up for the superintendent job in 2009, demonstrated as North High’s principal and otherwise during 30 years in the district how high expectations, strong teaching and caring leadership can transform any student into a success story. Thanks and good wishes are due Wren as she begins her next adventure in education.
