Keith Humphrey, a Democratic candidate for the Kansas Senate from Derby, objected to an offensive tweet a GOP operative made this week about his 17-year-old stepdaughter. And with good reason. Jim Gardner, who is a lobbyist and has past links to Brownback administration officials, noted an exchange on Twitter between Humphrey and his stepdaughter. Presumably not realizing their relationship, Gardner posted: “Teenage Lover! @ Keith Humphrey” and linked to the girl’s Twitter account. Humphrey, who is president of Jet AirWerks in Arkansas City, complained that “making crude tweets of a derogatory, adult nature is unacceptable,” and he urged Gov. Sam Brownback to “call off his thugs.” Gardner deleted the tweet and posted a 10-word apology.
