The police chiefs at Kansas universities oppose a proposed law that would force college campuses to allow permit holders to carry concealed guns. The university presidents also oppose the bill. So does the Kansas Board of Regents. So do student groups. The student government president at Fort Hays State University testified that students are seven times more likely to be killed by a snake while walking to class than to be killed by a school shooting. Yet the House Federal and State Affairs Committee approved the bill Wednesday. Maybe the full House – or at least the Kansas Senate – will actually care what the universities want.
