Student rally for principal, oppose tweeter

About 50 students rallied Tuesday in support of Shawnee Mission East High School principal Karl Krawitz. He has been taking flak for reprimanding student Emma Sullivan and demanding that she write letters of apology about a crude tweet she posted about Gov. Sam Brownback. After the incident became national news and Krawitz was criticized for opposing Sullivan’s free speech rights and cowing to pressure from the Brownback administration, the school district reversed course Monday and said an apology wasn’t needed. One student at the rally said Krawitz’s main goal was to make sure the school was “viewed positively.” Sullivan said that other students have bullied her about the tweet.
