Ratchet down the partisan rhetoric

Though it wasn’t surprising, it was disappointing that most of the Kansas delegation responded so stridently to President Obama’s jobs speech. They complained about Obama “doubling down on these job-destroying policies” (Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita) and pushing “the same failed policies” (Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.). It’s fine to disagree with specific proposals (though, as Obama noted, many of the ideas have been supported by Republicans in the past), but both sides need to ratchet down the partisan rhetoric. As Obama asked, can we “stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy”?

How is the repealer doing?

Gov. Sam Brownback made a big deal during his gubernatorial campaign about how he would create an “Office of the Repealer” to identify unnecessary laws and regulations. So how is that going? Secretary of Administration Dennis Taylor, who serves as the state repealer, said the administration has received about 250 suggestions so far, the Lawrence Journal-World reported. He said the suggestions “run the gamut” and that he will present Brownback with a set of repeal recommendations within the next two weeks.

Yes, that was Boehner

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, was spotted about town last week, including at Chester’s Chophouse. He was in town to raise money for Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, and for his own political action committees.
