Judging from SurveyUSA polling in the wake of the Kansas Legislature’s budget deal, many Kansans didn’t share Gov. Sam Brownback’s assessment of it as a “victory for Kansas.” The May 17 poll, sponsored by KWCH, Channel 12, found Brownback’s approval rating at 46 percent, down from 51 percent in April, 55 percent when he took office in January and the 63.2 percent of votes he won at the polls in November. Respondents also continued to take a dim view of the Legislature last month: 65 percent said they disapproved of the job lawmakers were doing, up from 60 percent disapproval in April.
