A proposal to cut an additional $74 million from schools failed 14-4. “I’ve never seen a proposal this late that would have such a devastating effect on the budget,” said Rep. Bill Feuerborn, D-Garnett. “It’s mind-boggling.” Another proposal by Rep. Gene Suellentrop, R-Wichita, to cut an additional $30 million — which excluded K-12 education but would have cut higher education by $14.3 million — was voted down 11-9.
