GOP lawmakers are complaining about $105 billion in spending that was “hidden” in the health care reform law. The spending includes about $40 billion for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, $15 billion for a prevention and public health fund, $10 billion for Medicare and Medicaid innovation programs, and $9.5 billion for the Community Health Centers Fund, Fox News reported. Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., claimed that part of the spending would essentially give Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius (in photo) a $16 billion “slush fund.” But Washington Post fact-checking determined that Bachmann’s claims are “bordering on ridiculous.” It noted that the spending was fully reported during the debate and has been openly discussed since. The paper’s conclusion: “There is no ‘bombshell’ except Bachmann’s bombast.”
