Despite what the Wichita City Council said in a 5-2 vote Tuesday, common sense still says it’s unsafe to let people solicit charitable donations while standing in the middle of busy streets. That’s why the Wichita Police Department sought a ban on intersection fundraising. At least the ordinance that passed the council Tuesday tightens the practice a bit and calls for re-examination of the issue in a year. Meanwhile, drivers and solicitors alike will need to be careful out there.
