President Obama and GOP leaders have managed to upset both conservatives and liberals with their tax deal — which may be the nature of finding the middle ground. Though the Democratic revolt over tax cuts for rich taxpayers and estates has received most of the media attention, some conservatives are also balking that the extension is only for two years and that the deal includes extended unemployment benefits, a temporary payroll-tax reduction and other benefits. Columnist Charles Krauthammer dubbed the deal “Stimulus II” and contended it is good for President Obama and bad for Republicans. Chris Chocola of Club for Growth called the plan “bad policy, bad politics, and a bad deal for the American people.”
