Rep. Darrell Issa (in photo), R-Calif., stands to win big if the GOP retakes control of the House, by becoming chairman of the House committee that could make life very difficult for the Obama administration. As it is, Issa bombards the White House with letters demanding information. How much more trouble could he make as chairman? “There will be a certain degree of gridlock as the president adjusts to the fact that he has been one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times,” Issa told Rush Limbaugh earlier this month. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus is fretting already: “Sometimes, certainly, the whiff of smoke exposes fire. Sometimes, too, it’s worth chasing smoke simply to ensure that no fire is smoldering unseen. But Issa, if it comes to that, must keep in mind: The fireman needs to be careful how he wields the ax.”
