Good for the GOP for trying to move beyond just being the “party of no” and offering its own ideas for governing. House Republicans unveiled a “Pledge to America” today that includes promises to repeal the health care reform law, extend all the Bush-era tax cuts and cut spending. “The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated,” the document states. However, some of the pledges seem contrary to GOP rhetoric. For example, extending the tax cuts would cost more than $4 trillion over the next decade, yet the pledge only specifies cutting $100 billion from spending. How does this match concerns about deficit spending?
