Senate primary rivals Reps. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, and Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, were quick to join the House’s new Tea Party Caucus, led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (in photo), R-Minn. With the caucus’ inaugural meeting and media conference Wednesday, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank declared the marriage of the tea party and the GOP consummated. “When tea party leaders join Republican lawmakers for a private strategy session followed by a campaign rally in the shadow of the Capitol, each has essentially endorsed the other,” he wrote. Bachmann said she is “hoping to be bipartisan” in the caucus, but did so in the same breath as she said it complemented GOP efforts to retake the House in November.
