It’s sad when the state’s failure to fund school districts on time no longer seems like big news. But after repeatedly being late with scheduled aid payments, the delays are starting to seem routine — though this time the amount of the late payment is stunning and unprecedented. The state owes districts about $400 million (about $53 million of which is owed to USD 259). The late payments force districts to shift money from other funds to cover their payrolls and other operating costs.
