Given the continued struggles of aircraft manufacturers, it wouldn’t be surprising if there were more layoffs. Still, it’s stunning that Hawker Beechcraft is considering shrinking its hourly work force 50 to 75 percent over the next two years, according to union leaders. The company released a statement saying it discussed with union leaders “a spectrum of possibilities for the company’s future footprint.” Let’s hope this is a worst-case scenario or some negotiation ploy, because such cuts would be a terrible blow to families, this city and this state.
