The national economy may have begun a slight upswing, but the Lord’s Diner isn’t seeing it. The diner served 14,805 meals in June — the highest monthly total in its eight-year history — and it set a record June 29 for most meals served in one night — 655. Other local charities also have seen increased demand. And in another measure, Sedgwick County foreclosures in the first half of the year were up 44 percent over the same six months in 2009. If the economy is recovering, it needs to hurry up and happen here.
