“If I were Wink Hartman, I’d use the tornado defense,” wrote Frank Cerabino, a columnist for the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post. Cerabino suggested that Hartman claim a tornado carried him to Florida, and that he has been trying to get back to Kansas ever since. How else might Hartman, who is running for Congress in the 4th Congressional District, explain why his self-declared primary residence is in Florida, where he also is registered to vote, has a valid driver’s license and has a polo league named after him? “These are inconvenient facts for a Kansas candidate who went on Wichita radio this month to say that campaign talk about him spending time in Florida is bunk,” Cerabino wrote.
