Despite the oily mess bearing down on the Gulf Coast states, Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., continued to talk up offshore drilling at his recent appearance in at the 3i Show in Great Bend. “We need to drill in the Gulf,” he said, according to the Hays Daily News. “We need to do it safely.”
“Thirty percent of our oil comes from the Gulf. We need to open more areas,” Brownback said, according to the Great Bend Tribune, also saying that development of alternative energy sources should continue but “oil and gas are basic for us.”
