Pro-con: Have White House gripes boosted Fox?

foxnewsThe Obama White House’s inexplicable war on Fox News has magnified Fox’s stature among viewers. Far from marginalizing Fox and delegitimizing it as a news source, as intended, the feud has made more people than ever choose Fox News as their favored source of television infotainment. Fox’s ratings bumped up almost 10 percent in the two weeks after the White House decided to engage Fox News directly. And among advertisers’ favorite demographic — 25- to 54-year-olds — Fox’s ratings went up a whopping 14 percent. This is probably not the kind of change Obama voters thought they were voting for. Congratulations, Obama. You have transformed Fox into the most successful “news” channel ever. — D.K. Jamaal, Examiner.com

The breathless claim that Fox News’ ratings recently spiked thanks to the White House’s public critique is bogus hype. A detailed analysis of Nielsen ratings numbers clearly indicates that in the two weeks after the White House in mid-October sparked a media controversy by claiming Rupert Murdoch’s channel was not a legitimate news organization, Fox News’ ratings did not soar. They experienced no significant increase at all. Instead, in the two weeks after the initial verbal jousts with the White House, Fox News’ total day ratings virtually flatlined. Think about it. The unfolding controversy — which gobbled up untold hours and pages of news coverage as the Beltway press treated the dispute like a major news event — and the hubbub barely moved the ratings needle one inch in Fox News’ favor. — Eric Boehlert, Media Matters

    Pro / Con?

Your “Pro” side subtly mocked Fox as a news source:

    “television infotainment”
    “news” channel

Nevermind it was from the Examiner…

Your Con side was from Media Matters…

Think you could get a better Pro / Con source next time?

Fox and MSNBC is for hypochondriacs, it all depends on what your desire to be wrong as to which one you are wanting to hear from. But the end result is not a real or fact based diagnosis of what is wrong with you or the country.

If the country has a chest cold but you want to believe it has cancer, then you listen to Fox.
But if it is a cancer, but you want to believe it is just a chest cold then its MSNBC.
If you want to believe it is all the Cons its O’Donnell but if you want to believe its all the Libs its O’Reilly.

But in the end with either it all depends on what you already want it to be as to which you listen to.

    ———–
Writer I always find your posts so interesting. Can you give me an example of a couple of news stories that FOX reported falsely.

Just a couple of stories. Viewers are very decerning. If the news is wrong it wouldn’t take them long to see the trend. I seriously doubt that you even watch FOX. You just take the lefts side on that one and echo their thoughts.

CNN used to be my first source. No longer. They have debased themselves as a serious news source. When they have to stoop to ‘fact checking’ a SNL comedy skit then you know they are a shill for the administration.

MSNBC lost credibility completely when one of their anchors got ‘thrills up his leg’ when listening to Obama speak.

No new source does it all but overall I think FOX does the best job. As with any news source you need to do your own research and questions all stories.

Love how the lefts DorisKing throws out figures of lost revenue with absolutely no basis just expecting readers to swallow those facts.

Opinion shows are just that. They don’t claim to be ‘news’ shows. O’Reilly and Greta are very balanced in what they present. Listen to a few shows and this will be apparent. Hannity is and has been very conservative and anti administration on his shows. Beck – well Beck is a whole other kettle of fish. I have a hard time watching him. News shows like Shep Smith and Brett Baier are just that – news shows. They present the facts and let the viewer put their own spin on those facts.

Fact is that FOX for whatever reason ices the competition.

Cable news has become more popular as the print media has tanked.

    Nuff said.

As always, the devil is in the details.

I wasn’t trying to slam Boxlock20. He genuinely believes that less government is the best government. He looks to the Republicans and Conservatives to deliver on promises they have made regarding the ideal size of government. I was just curious what Boxlock20’s opinion would be about the reasons for their inability to deliver on those promises when they had the opportunity to do so.
