House debate and possible vote today on transformative legislation to protect Americans and lower future deficits. This could be a great, historic day for American progress.

Just because you live in a Republican State, does not mean you cannot contact the democrat leadership in Congress and/or the White House.

The white house telephone lines are ALREADY clogged this morning. Their servers are crashing.

But you CAN email or call the democrats and tell them to vote NO on Obamacare:

I thought I already have a ribbon for service during the Cold War. Now I guess I will be out of uniform in my burial dress blues if this passes. Heck if I’m going to go buy the new medal, possibly another ribbon AND a bigger ribbon bar.

Guess you will have to make me do pushups on heavens shore.

NEW BILL TO HONOR COLD WAR VETERANS
“This week introduced the Cold War Service Medals Act of 2009, bipartisan legislation to authorize the secretaries of the military departments to award Cold War Service Medals to American veterans. To date, no medal exists to honor the men and women who served and defended the United States during the Cold War. From the end of World War II to dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Cold War veterans were in the vanguard of the Nation’s defenses. Although long overdue, this legislation will honor and recognize the American patriots who for nearly half-a-century defended the Nation against the advance of communist ideology in the form of the Cold War Service Medal. The commitment, motivation, and fortitude of these brave service members was second to none and their actions should be recognized in a long-standing military custom befitting their patriotism and service.”

“The tail end of this thing looks bad.”

“To make the case for a big stimulus package, they released their economic forecast for the next few years. Without the stimulus, they saw the unemployment rate — then 7.2 percent — rising above 8 percent in 2009 and peaking at 9 percent next year. With the stimulus, the advisers said, unemployment would probably peak at 8 percent late this year.”

“I believe that legislation of this enormous magnitude, that by necessity we are moving quickly — we’re not moving quickly because we’re trying to jamb something down people’s throats. We’re moving quickly because we’re told that if we don’t move quickly, that the economy is going keep on getting worse, and we’ll have another 2 or 3 or 4 million jobs loss this year.”

I actually agree with Obama on this one:

“If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists – to protect them and to promote their common welfare – all else is lost.”

I’m thinking we are nearing the “all else is lost” point.

I got the certificate, don’t care about the medal – but might buy it and put it on my ‘atta-boy’ board of ribbons and medals, then shove it back in the drawer.

No really cares anyway, especially on this blog.

Commentary from a couple of threepers who attended the rally in D.C. on Thursday.
    ——————————————–

    3) The capitol police were very visible and very highly armed, carying M4’s. They also appeared to me to be a little on edge, much more so than on 9/12.

“People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their People.” Looks like things might be moving back in the right direction in DC.

It’s not about “health” or even “care” – it’s about POWER! How many would dare speak against the regime knowing THEY get to decide whether you live or die?

I had a hard time concentrating on the speakers because I just couldn’t stop focusing on some other things.

I counted 11 snipers on the roof of the end of the Capitol building nearest where I was standing. I found it hard as hell to listen knowing I was in someone’s crosshairs.

I made a point of pointing this out to as many sheeple as possible: “You want to know what they think of you? Count the snipers on the roof right there.”

What was truly amazing to me was the number — all — who reacted in total horror and hadn’t even noticed them. Total “condition white.”

Of course AARP supports the HC Bill. Their revenue was 339 million dollars from allowing insurance companies to use AARP logo on selling policies. Any member of AARP knows – the get junk mail constantly on HC from AARP. Something like 3-4 billion dollars of AARP revenue over the few years came from health care insurance.

So how does the democrats bill help?

The HC Bill cuts almost half a billion dollars from Medicare. That is the payments the Feds make to healthcare providers. Nevermind that many providers are already paid less in reimbursements from Medicare/Medicaid. Nevermind that just as sure as God made those little green apples – this cut in healthcare to seniors will result in fewer providers for seniors. In this topsy-turvy world of Obamaspeak -this is NOT a CUT and is an INCREASE. But I digress.

Part of the Obamacare medicare CUT includes drastic cuts and elimination eventually of the Medicare Part C, Medicare Advantage.

Millions of seniors have elected Medicare Advantage because it covers much of the out-of-pocket/copays that medicare doesn’t pay without having to pay for a private copayer policy.

Bottom line: If Obamacare passes – these millions of seniors will HAVE TO FIND NEW PRIVATE COPAYER’s and pay MORE for health insurance.

    AARP sells insurance……

They don’t give a rats a zz about seniors. It’s the money honey.

Just a suggestion for other veterans, you can have your DD214 recorded down at the county courthouse. Permanently kept as a matter of record.

Whenever you need an “official” copy, you can walk into the Courthouse and they will make you a copy from the public record. (yes, a repro charge applies).

This is useful for young, or new vets. Young people move around a lot, don’t keep paperwork, and don’t always think about the future. Mom & Dad move, get old and forgetful, and periodically clean out the attic and the kids old room (and throw things away).

    Just a suggestion.

Yeah, I keep mine in the same spot, bottom drawer of an old dresser.

Did you know you can register your DD214 at the County Clerk’s office. You should do that if you haven’t.

It gets you a stamped and signed certified registered copy, good for applications of all kinds.

The largest group of Ohio physicians oppose Obamacare:

“The Ohio State Medical Association, an affiliate of the American Medical Association, said the bill rightfully works to extend coverage to most Americans. But some provisions would harm providers, the association said, and in turn adversely affect health care in the United States.

Until the flaws are fixed, the Ohio association will oppose passage, said Dr. Roy H. Thomas, the association’s president and an Elyria ophthalmologist.

The association represents about 20,000 physicians, residents, medical students and practice managers. Thomas said the flaws in the latest House bill, introduced last week by Democratic leaders after months of committee work, include a perennial problem with payments to doctors under Medicare, the federal program that pays senior citizens’ health bills.

Under an attempt to create balanced budgets, federal law requires annual cuts in Medicare payments to doctors. However, many doctors say that if these cuts were to occur, they would lose so much money they’d have to stop treating Medicare patients. So Congress grants one-year exemptions every year.

Congress needs to fix the problem permanently, Thomas said, so the threat of double-digit cuts cannot cloud the treatment atmosphere. The House bill does not include a fix. Instead, House leaders want to deal with the matter in separate legislation, whose prospects are unclear.

The association’s other concerns include a provision to halt federal payments if doctors buy or start up hospitals. Critics say that when doctors have an equity stake, they can profit from every step of care, potentially leading to unnecessary referrals and cherry-picking of profitable patients. But Thomas said that doctor-owned hospitals provide some of the best care available and that the doctor-patient relationship already relies on trust, which is overwhelmingly earned and deserved.

The doctors’ additional concerns involve the lack of broad federal tort reform. They also fear a provision to expand Medicaid, the federal-state program that covers the poor. While the bill would improve Medicaid payments to doctors, who say the current rates are inadequate, the increases could disappear after two years, Thomas said.

“As physicians, we understand better than many others that the status quo of the health care delivery system is unsustainable,” Thomas said. “However, the total proposal lacks many of the critical elements necessary for successfully reforming America’s health care delivery system and strengthening the physician-patient relationship.”

DavidB: So are subsidies for the Arts, so is ADC, so is food stamps, so CHIPS, as are most government entitlement programs

Democrats cry everytime a republican DARES to cut an entitlement.

But when democrats do it themselves – cut MEDICARE, then it’s A O.K.

And DavidB, just exactly WHO is going to pay for the NEW PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE these seniors will have to now buy to replace the cut program?

And it will cost seniors MORE.

Now you can try to justify it any way you want. But Advantage is the desired entitlement utilized by millions of seniors.

Democrats are going to take it away, and these seniors WILL pay more, and ultimately taxpayers will pay more.

Demcorats do not care about poor senior people.

Yeah, they can do that to a certain degree. Being as the employee is not the proprieter, they have to insure the output of their employment.

    Ever hear of AFLAC?

I forgot the name of the insurance, but anyone from Oil Rig workers to Hollywood actors buy an insurance in case their employment goes south – so they will have an income to take care of them until the next job.

““health care bill that’s for poor folks””

Don’t let facts get in the way of your fantasy Thanks-No-Thanks:

Health Bill Will Hike Medicare Drug Coverage Premiums 20 Percent, Says CBO

(CNSNews.com) – If the health-care reform bill under consideration in the House of Representatives becomes law, seniors will pay Medicare prescription drug program premiums that are 20-percent higher than they
would be under current law, says the Congressional Budget Office.

The increase in premiums will start with an average 5-percent hike in 2011 and reach 20 percent by 2019.

The CBO estimated the increase in premiums in response to an inquiry from Rep. Dave Camp (R.-Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House Ways
and Means Committee, who wanted to know how changes to the Medicare system that are incorporated into the House version of the health-care reform bill would impact the premiums paid by seniors for their prescription drug benefit-known as Medicare Part D.

“Overall, CBO estimates that enacting the proposed changes would lead to an average increase in premiums for Part D beneficiaries, above those under current law, of about 5 percent by 2011,” CBO Director Douglas
Elmendorf said to Camp in a letter. “That effect would rise over time and reach about 20 percent in 2019.”

    Terri Prejean, remember her?

You know. She was the right wings new pinup gal. The wannabe and current (for now) Miss California? The one who said that marriage should be between a man and a woman, God this God that, etc.?

She was to be the featured speaker at some family values…thing last night.

    She didn’t make it.

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) Did the legal battle between former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean and pageant organizers suddenly conclude because organizers presented Prejean with a sex tape starring the religiously devout beauty queen?

Celebrity site TMZ says yes and CNN, last night, said a source with knowledge of the settlement confirmed it. Crimesider has no independent verification of the story at this time.

In August, Prejean sued Miss California USA organizers for libel, slander and religious discrimination. She accused them of telling her to stop mentioning God, even before she made controversial remarks against gay marriage.

Prejean was fired in June after pageant officials accused her of missing events, an allegation that she denied.

The pageant countersued Prejean last month, claiming the buxom blonde still owed them $5,200 for the breast implants they helped her buy.

The dueling lawsuits had the making of a showdown at the ok corral in a string bikini but the warring factions abruptly made peace on Tuesday.

A joint statement released yesterday says Prejean and pageant organizers reached a confidential settlement on both legal fronts and both parties “wish each other the best in their future endeavors.”

As for that alleged sex tape reportedly starring Prejean, if TMZ had the tape months ago, as the site claims, why didn’t they post it online or on air? TMZ Managing Editor Harvey Levin claimed in a Wednesday webcast that the tape, which he said features just Prejean, was too graphic for their taste.

    Ouuch!

In the weeks just before President Obama took office, his economic advisers made a mistake. They got a little carried away with hope.
    . . .
Unfortunately, the administration’s rose-colored forecast has muddied this picture. So if at some point this year or next the White House decides that the economy needs more stimulus, skeptics will surely brandish that old forecast.

Worst of all, the economy really may need more help.”

    CBO Report

Having reviewed the 29/30 October CBO reports that democrats are relishing as support for their trillion + dollar healthcare reform, it is obvious that democrats stacked the deck to get the response they wanted.

It’s simple to trick the CBO.

First, front load the revenue enhancements (tax increases, penalties). Make these effective early in the ten year forecast window. This will increase federal revenues.

Second, back load the new spending programs (bet you wondered why the new entitlements don’t start for years). This starts the spending later in the ten year window CBO was asked to forecast deficit effects for the program.

Third, include false cuts: Cutting medicare payments to providers by 500 billion dollars. These are cuts proposed every year, but when the new year comes, Congress routinely and always overrules the cuts to doctors and hospitals.

In short, Obama and democrats are slick and are using deceitful legal gimmicks to make their program appear less costly than reality.

  48. American_Way
    Posted November 7, 2009 at 10:29 am | Permalink

Finally, I have no illusions that democrats will back off their ultimate goal of socializing medicine in America. They do believe in their heart of hearts that a Canadian or British system is best for all of us.

So they will do everything they can short of that goal, to make it happen eventually.

All this talk and delay has been a show. They will be able to claim they “worked hard” to get it right. They will pretend to argue over the merits of funding abortions for the Christian Right democrats, when in effect it was always a bargaining chip added to appear to be compromise on “something”.

It will pass. The best for those of us opposed is that it will rattle an already disbelieving public. A public already like deer in the headlights on the rapid socialist changes Obama from the extreme far left is pushing.

In short, let’s hope it is a wakeup call for independents and republicans mad at Bush and his crew.

Box I think there is a lot of truth in what you say. My husband and I have lived through several recessions in our married life. Funny I don’t remember the ones that happened before I was respoinsible for a family of my own.

One thing all of this recessions had in common was that they all ran their course and ended thankfully. This one is showing no signs of that happening. A jobless recovery is a nonsensical term. With one in ever six Americans either un or under employed something needs to happen and this administration doesn’t have a clue how to cure the problem. Their answer is to pass this omnibill that will pile even more tax on the back of individuals and small businesses.

Seniors are older and wiser. We have seen it all. We don’t fear normal economic cycles. We fear the intervention of those inept at making economic policy.

One big lie that we also got with this stimulus bill was the one about ’saved’ jobs. How exactly would this have been calculated?

We of course know now it couldn’t be calculated which is why we are getting ‘revised’ numbers that are going down, down, down…

If Dickinson is correct, is it fanciful to suppose that those who are closer to the end of their lives might react more strongly against reminders of death? I haven’t been able to find any experiments testing this proposition, but it is surely worth investigating. The nation is in recession among other things for spending more money than we as a nation have and individuals. Greed is the excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of money, wealth, power.

Perhaps in this way it is logical to you to attempt to spend your way out of a recesssion into prosperity.

What ridiculous, non-scientific excuse(s) to deny AGW science will you use if the long-term warming trend resumes during the next few years? And resumes despite lower solar activity.

One friend was watching his daughter’s birth and said to his wife, “I don’t know why you’re screaming. You’re the one who’s got a pillow.”

Another guy was with his wife who was going through a long, long labor. Between contractions she said, “If my hips were two inches wider we wouldn’t still be here.” He responded, “If your hips were two inches wider you wouldn’t be here in the first place.”

In both cases, the wives were not amused.

In the mean time, the company asked them to take deferred salary. The amount worked in favor of the employee, unless they died early with no beneficiaries. Well Pleef I hadn’t said a thing up to now. Even though that poster has been giving us news that isn’t for about a month. His only other purpose here being to follow me around. What do we get an update with every diaper change? And it isn’t even his first grandchild. I just get a little tired of him including us in this not that big a deal event. He hasn’t said anything is awhile. Maybe the kid is born and he can shut up about it.

    “Freebird1971″ –

I’m not sure “BlueJay’s” advocacy of what he considers a basic human right takes anything from you.

Jesus told us to consider the poor, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to do unto others as we would want others to do unto them.

Last night’s particular approach to health insurance reform isn’t perfect; not by a long shot. But it’s been systematically designed to make the money we spend on health care go mostly to, y’know, health care.

“BlueJay” antagonizes WE Blog CONs, I know.

I’ve noticed my antagonizing CONs result it most of ‘em running like whupped dogs with their tails between their legs. And name-calling. And failed attempts at personal attacks.

“BlueJay’s” kid is off-limits, I think. WE Blog CONs’ attacks on “BlueJay” aren’t all that different from me reminding Toad Tiahrt’s worshipers of the congressman’s stellar parenting skills. CONs have inundated WE Blog editors to remove such references. And I have agreed because they are, in fact, reprehensible.

Just like WE Blog CONs’ personal attacks against “BlueJay’s” kid.

I think it’s terrible Americans spend more than any society for health care and are 19th in in the world in the ranking of life expectancy. (Unless you eliminate car accidents and shootings; in which we rank Number 17!

We are a genetically free-market society. But there have come times in our history when the free market has failed. It happened in 1776. It happened in 1861. It happened in 1929.

    And it’s happening now.

CONs have been reduced to name-calling; spewing out “SOCIALIST!!!” and “COMMUNIST!!!! and personal attack (“Chas the Spaz,” comes to mind.

We’ve discuss some important things, “Freebird1971.” Some important things — no politics or WE Blog garbage; issues.

I really don’t think you’re evil. But I know you have a record of hanging out with people who buy 18-Packs a day.

Think about the political equivalents who parrot the Tea Party line from every angle of attack they can come up with.

When “BlueJay’s” kid gets caught in the crossfire — and you defend them — and it’s just as despicable as my Scott Tiahrt comments and WE Blog CONs’ attacks against “BlueJay’s” kid.

I’ve quipped about your new granddaughter (“She’ll always be late.”) not as an attack, but just as a tangential comment about her holding off to be born full-Scorpio.

And, for the record, I am not in the least offended by your assuming I might be female. I can’t imagine what offense might be construed therein.

“I’ve noticed my antagonizing CONs result it most of ‘em running like whupped dogs with their tails between their legs. And name-calling. And failed attempts at personal attacks.”—Monkey

Ho ho ho, don’t delude yourself Monkey, nobody runs from you ever. You simply look like a fool to think so.
And no one attacks BlueJays kid either unless you think feeling sorry for the poor kid and wishing the best for him under his very sad circumstance of a father is an attack. Again yours is a foolish statement.

With regard to your comment of what Jesus says:
“Jesus told us to consider the poor, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to do unto others as we would want others to do unto them.”

This is what the Creator of the universe also says about that.

“One thing I love about the Bible is that it takes a hard stand on people who try to just “get by” and feed off others without doing a lick of work themselves. Here’s my favorite verse on this topic:

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Yep, don’t work, don’t eat. I think that says it all.

Notice that it doesn’t say that those who CAN NOT work should not eat. No, we should have compassion on and help out those people. But if someone can work, yet WILL NOT work, then he’s left to the consequences of his actions (or inactions in this case).

Here are a couple other verses on this same line of thinking:

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. Proverbs 10:4

How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest — and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 6:9-11

So get outthere and work! Or find a way to survive without eating.”
