“It’s going to take some time to deconstruct this lengthy masterpiece, but as you flip through the pages of the House bill, you will notice the word “regulation” appears 181 times. “Tax” is there 214 times. “Fees,” 103 times. As we all know, nothing says “affordability” like higher taxes and fees.
The word “shall” – as in “must” or “required to” – appears over 3,000 times. The word, alas, is never preceded by the patriotic phrase “mind our own freaking business.” Not once.”

“President Nicolas Sarkozy will next year press ahead with measures to make people work longer for their pensions to reform France’s cash-strapped retirement system, according to a senior official.

The President remains the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
My opinion however is that since the days of having a President with any legitimate military experience (this includes GW), the best plan is to listen to your Generals and grant their wishes.
Obama is swimming in waters he can not possibly comprehend. He needs to check his politics at the door and either pull out or take the General’s recommendations. Me thinks he is too much of an egocentric to do that.
Right ’sursum’, thanks.
It is pretty funny the way the libtards on here defend obama’s lack of decisiveness. His lack of experience and inability to lead are staggering and yet the libtards still defend him to a fault.
McCrystal (sp?) was obama’s pick. Obama selected him, but he doesn’t trust the general’s recommendations? Speaks volumes.
I think this administration has installed a revolving door. With the catastrophic failures in staffing his cabinet, utter and complete lack of vetting and gross misjudgments, I guess I can’t blame him.
In the words of that great military strategist, Country Joe –
Well it’s 1 – 2- 3 –
What are we fightin’ for?
Unlike his predecessor, this Commander in Chief is asking that question.
Any of you WE Blog CONs have an answer?
LJ, that’s what happens when we elect a rookie. A few years as a community organizer, an incomplete term in the Senate and a way with words may be enough to get elected, but they aren’t enough to do the job.
Experience counts. He had none.
And here we are.
GMC70-
Sadly, I have to agree.
Unlike his predecessor, this Commander in Chief is asking that question.
If I believed that was the case, MH, I might agree with you. I don’t.
President Obama, March, 2009
“Good morning,” began the President today. “Today, I am announcing a comprehensive, new strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan. And this marks the conclusion of a careful policy review, led by Bruce [Reidel], that I ordered as soon as I took office.”
Read the White Paper on the new policy (pdf) >>
Read the One-pager on the new elements in the policy >>
The President stressed the perilous position we find ourselves in there, and the threat that would arise should safe havens on Pakistan go unchallenged or should the government in Afghanistan fall to the Taliban again. He also noted that 2008 was the deadliest year to date in that war.
The President put forth the central question:
Many people in the United States — and many in partner countries that have sacrificed so much — have a simple question: What is our purpose in Afghanistan? After so many years, they ask, why do our men and women still fight and die there? And they deserve a straightforward answer.
And gave his answer:
So I want the American people to understand that we have a clear and focused goal: to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and to prevent their return to either country in the future. That’s the goal that must be achieved. That is a cause that could not be more just.
White House, November 2009
“CBS) Editor’s note, 9:57 p.m. EDT: The White House has issued the following response to this story, attributed to White House National Security Advisor James Jones:
“Reports that President Obama has made a decision about Afghanistan are absolutely false. He has not received final options for his consideration, he has not reviewed those options with his national security team, and he has not made any decisions about resources. Any reports to the contrary are completely untrue and come from uninformed sources.”"

“KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday that United States needs to focus on Afghanistan in its battle against terrorism.
Sen. Barack Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai meet Sunday in Kabul.
“The Afghan government needs to do more. But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan. And I believe this has to be our central focus, the central front, on our battle against terrorism,” Obama said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“I think one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq,” he said.”
“We need a sense of urgency and determination. We need urgency because the threat from the Taliban and al Qaeda is growing and we must act; we need determination because it will take time to prevail. ”

Poor Phantom-
All he can do is mutter mostly irrevelant sayings about others, but he can;t logically support his choice for Commander in Chief.
I see that one of the DC snipers is scheduled for exection. No tears for him here.
Sorry, I misstateed that. Phantom can’t support President Obama’s plan for Afghanistan……. Because he doesn;t have one. So, for Phantom, far better to attack someone else.
Well President Obama still has seven years to get Osama bin Laden.
george w. bush had that amount of time too.
He didn’t get bin Laden. Probably, he didn’t want to.
But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan.
Funny, I don’t see a sense of urgency in obama. Seems he blew off his selection to lead the effort. Did he make yet another bad personnel selection?
He doesn’t seem to trust those he put in place.
Bush was too busy getting Sadaam to worry about bin Laden. Interesting that during the Bush years Afghanistan was the forgotten war now it seems the forgotten war is in Iraq.
Obama is correct focusing on Afghanistan just wish he would decide what he is going to do there.
Speaking of Afghanistan…

Just my opinion but I think he needs to go with what his commanders on the ground suggest what needs to be done ASAp.
It may well be he’s delaying to give Pakistan time to take out their homegrown al-quida, before moving on the afghan al-quida. Divide and conquer. Guess since he’s CIC with access to intel and info the rest of America isn’t, we’ll just have to give him the benefit of the doubt. WASHINGTON (CNN) – A new national poll indicates that more than seven out in 10 Republicans say they would seriously consider voting for Mike Huckabee for president in the next race for the White House, giving the former Arkansas governor more potential support than Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, or any other Republican tested.
But the USA Today/Gallup survey released Wednesday morning also suggests that none of those potential Republican hopefuls could win the votes of a majority of all Americans if they won the GOP nomination in 2012.

To what end?
What do we WIN if we win in Afghanistan?
At what cost.
McChrystal has been given a mission and, as any good military man, has assessed what he thinks is necessary for that mission.
President Obama inherited that mission and has the wisdom to take a half-step back and assess what that mission might achieve. And ask if the victory is worth the cost.
I’ve posted many times my opinion Afghanistan is not about Afghanistan, but about the Islamic nukes in Pakistan.
To me, that’s the only question.
Yeah, the Taliban were and are pretty awful. But they’re there and the rest of the world isn’t. Opium poppies and women’s rights are mitigating factors but, again, at what cost to the American military.
Any of you CONs have an opinion?
Nah. You’d rather rag on the President of the United States in hopes of some kind of political edge.
I think all of you gripers would all flunk out in a course on CEO 101… You know what I wish?? i wish EVERY ONE of you people constantly belly-aching about what Obama does, or Doesnt do could be gifted with a ONE DAY PASS to follow the man around… from the time he gets up, until he goes to bed that night…

Bad, depressing news for the chicken little crowd:
————————–
Hank,
Please explain why you seem to believe that the U.S., with less than 2 percent of Earth’s surface area, = “GLOBAL“.
And try to explain it rationally, without using personal insults.
Just so we get this straight…
If Obama chooses to NOT send more troops, my hunch is you will chastise him for not winning the war…
And if he does send more troops, you will them gripe and complain, because more American lives will likely be lost….
Is that pretty much it??? You are wanting to make sure you have the proper rants all set and ready to post, eh?? LOL
For those who do not check out that blog that causing concern for some here.
I posted this yesterday but it is as much about the effort in Afghanistan as it was about the death of Pat Tillman. I have put ** at the point where I address Afghanistan:
Tillman to me was a cosmic warning of this is not going to be good.
He was the real life of the comic strip hero “Flash Gordon” tall, blond, handsome, muscular and stand alone heroic. The very emblem of what we want in a great American hero, the image of the American Soldier.
While the actually image is short and everyday on the outside those traits of Flash Gordon are held within.
When the news of Pat Tillman’s death came it was almost symbolic of the American effort was dying.
As we now know that in deed was the truth, the effort to get Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda was dead.
The feeling I had deep inside at the news was just that, this was a cosmic warning sign.
Yes the efforts in Afghanistan is as the saying goes, “ A day late and a Dollar short!”.
One of the things that contributed to the invasion of Iraq was Bush’s desire to finish the job started by his father. He lacked the common sense his father had about why he stopped the push to Baghdad in the first Gulf war. G.W. was anger about the voices condemning his father for stopping. Those voices were mainly the Neo-Conservatives.
**Now we are seeming stuck with that same feelings, the job was not done and the compulsion is to finish it.
But the problem is that that house has already burnt to the ground and we still feel that we need to have the fire department come. I will use the same example again, “Afghanistan is a pothole on the most remote road that no one ever drives down. Even if we repair it, what good is it is still the most remote road that no one drives down!”. Al-Qaeda was living in that pothole but has since moved and not likely to be welcome back to their old pothole.
It is actually hard for me to say, the people of Afghanistan still live there and are not as well off as they should be. “The only way for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing!“
But there is no point in keep trying to fill the pothole… let’s leave.**
Atta boy chass. Keep that stroke finger under control. Meds kicking in?

While I feel no need to agree or disagree with several of your points, I really just want the President of the United States to make a decision and carry it out. I do not know if it is the right thing to do to stay, or to leave. I do know just standing still is getting people killed for nothing. THe President stated “Many people in the United States — and many in partner countries that have sacrificed so much — have a simple question: What is our purpose in Afghanistan? After so many years, they ask, why do our men and women still fight and die there? And they deserve a straightforward answer.”
That statememt was made in March after a “comprehensive review” I am still waiting
chass,
Do you think the president elect is kept in the dark right up until he is sworn in?
Do you not remember obama’s (apparent) rhetoric re Afghanistan while campaigning?
Lets go by your dates chass, why has the president and CIC let 9 months go by without having the Afghanistan discussions? Golf more of a priority? Well, he did have to decide where to go on date night. Oh yeah, and the white house pet. Priorities priorities.
President Obamas answer in March, 2009
“So I want the American people to understand that we have a clear and focused goal: to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and to prevent their return to either country in the future. That’s the goal that must be achieved. That is a cause that could not be more just.”
President Obamas answer in November 2009
“I don;t know”
Nice.
L-J …. your answer there from March seems to be what we are now doing… Now, he doesnt know whether its best to “stay the course”(echos of GWB) or take off in some new direction….

If you were not so [long insulting list omitted] you would know that what is currently happening in mainland Antarctica was predicted years ago by the first climate models.
Antarctica is surrounded by a deep ocean — water warms slower than land. Most land is in the Northern hemisphere.
Antarctica is isolated by circumpolar wind patterns.
AGW is increasing moisture levels, which can increase snowfall.
The Antarctic Peninsula is in a different climate situation than the mainland.
Global Warming Predictions Invalidated

A new study in the journal Science has just shown that all of the climate modeling results of the past are erroneous. The IPCC’s modeling cronies have just been told that the figures used for greenhouse gas forcings are incorrect, meaning none of the model results from prior IPCC reports can be considered valid.

A few quotes from our modern governmental mentors Joseph Goebbels and Herman Goering, respectively:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
“Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

On related issue and about sending Muslims to fight in a Muslim nation.
If the day comes when we are at war with Israel, would it be such an outlandish issue of not sending soldiers of the Jewish faith to fight?
By and large we separate religious beliefs from national defense and serving in the military.
The war with Israel is not about a war against Jews as it would be against another country.
But then how would a Jewish soldier view it?
Patriotism and religious faith are two of the strongest influences and motivations for sacrifice.
If there was a country that is the home land and totally the Christian faith was the guiding factor.
How many Christians would be willing to separate their religious faith from their national duties?
Which would they decide to defend or fight against?

I grew up during the Viet Nam conflict in a community of primarily Mennonite people. The majority of them abhorred violence, and eschewed taking part in the conflict. SOme filed CO status, some went to jail for their moral convictions about violence (which, before anybody starts–I was in disagreement with), some served in the national interests in other ways. I admired them for the adherence to their beliefs. None, however, took up a gum and started shooting people. I don;t see a moral equivalence here.
Glad to see they’re working on reform, no thanks to the party of no.
By Kevin Drawbaugh Kevin Drawbaugh – 53 mins ago
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee introduced a financial regulation reform bill on Tuesday that leaps beyond earlier proposals, calling for new government agencies on financial stability, bank supervision and financial consumer protection.
Senator Christopher Dodd, a Democrat, released the bill after intense closed-door negotiations, raising the ante in a debate over tighter bank and capital market regulation that has been going on for months since last year’s financial crisis.
The measure was expected to win little or no support from Republicans, setting the stage for still more debate ahead, with analysts expecting no final Senate action until 2010.
Dodd, who faces a tough re-election challenge next year in his home state of Connecticut, called in his bill for a new super bank regulator, as expected, to be called the Financial Institutions Regulatory Administration, or FIRA.
The new agency would consolidate the bank supervisory powers of four current regulators and abolish the Office of Thrift Supervision and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp and the Federal Reserve would lose their roles as direct bank supervisors.
The Dodd bill goes further than earlier proposals from the Obama administration and one under development in the House. Both seek more modest centralization of bank supervision.
Dodd’s bill also calls for creating a financial stability agency. Previous proposals have focused on establishing a council of existing regulators to police systemic risks.
FIRST PLAN FOR INSURANCE OVERSIGHT
The Dodd bill would establish a National Insurance Office, which would be the first attempt by the federal government to monitor the insurance industry. The House and administration proposals have taken similar approaches.
As expected, Dodd’s bill backs the administration’s call for creating a Consumer Financial Protection Agency. The bill proposes that it be funded through fees charged to banks with $10 billion or more in assets and that the Federal Reserve transfer money annually to the agency.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp would be the primary agency for unwinding troubled financial firms, with the use of a “systemic resolution fund,” under the bill. The cost of dismantling troubled companies would be recouped afterward through assessments on other financial firms.
The House of Representatives is on track for a final vote on financial regulation reform before the end of the year.
The House Financial Services Committee has already approved measures on credit rating agency oversight, derivatives market regulation and consumer protection. In July, the full House approved a bill to put new curbs on executive pay.
In June, the administration released more than a dozen proposals for financial regulation reform, with the aim of preventing a repeat of last year’s financial crisis.

Arctic Aerosols Indicate Melting Ice Not Caused By CO2
Submitted by Doug L. Hoffman on Mon, 04/27/2009 – 11:30
NASA researchers report that much of the atmospheric warming observed in the Arctic since 1976 may be due to changes in tiny airborne particles called aerosols. Though greenhouse gases are invariably blamed for global climate change, and the shrinking Arctic ice cover in particular, this new research indicates that as much as half the warming in the Arctic can be attributed to sort lived particulate pollution—basically soot. Unlike the dreaded gas, CO2, aerosols do not stay in the atmosphere very long, suggesting that the effects of any warming caused by aerosols would quickly be reversed if their emissions ceased.
Meanwhile, the UK’s The Register speculates that Dr Shindell’s position at NASA’s Goddard Institute must now be a potentially stressful one. “His boss, Dr James Hansen, is more or less the father of the carbon-driven global warming menace,” the online edition reported, “[h]e won’t be pleased at the suggestion that carbon emissions may not be such an overriding concern after all.” Politics and personal prejudice interfering with government sponsored research? Sadly, there is nothing new in that.

There were many different positions taken.

Free you and LJ are right. I was thinking of their belief on violence. I have studied the Amish and Mennonites and find them to be just what they say they are. To serve as medics would be something they probably feel right doing. Many would volunteer to work in third world countries helping the improvished. In this way they do their duty to their country.
My point to chas and dog was we are spending all of this time wondering ‘why he did it’ instead of seeing him as the animal he is/was when he carried out this well planned attacks on innocents. Who cares about his justification in his sick mind. Why do the libs alway give the benefit of the doubt to such as this and condem other who are just doing what they think is right like killing someone they think is killing innocents.

It is noteworthy that aerosols were one of the categories of contributing factors that the IPCC’s 2007 report cited as poorly understood. It looks like they were right about that, and will have to significantly rework their climate models in the face of this new evidence. Of course, climate researchers are constantly trying to improve their models, as the recent spate of climate prediction updates indicate. Scientists from the EU and around the world have stated that we are now in for several decades of global cooling, not warming.

In a demonstration of the law of unexpected consequences, the success of anti-pollution laws may actually be responsible for part of global temperature rise over the past three decades. When did Obama say he wasn’t going BJ? This video should be directed at China and India instead of blaming the U.S. for all the worlds polution.
“Climate Change: With less than two months to go before the big Copenhagen Conference on global warming, two major nations have said “no thanks” to the no-growth agenda. For that reason alone, so should we.
Following a deal signed late Thursday between China and India, anything we might agree to do in Copenhagen is likely moot anyway. The two mega-nations — which together account for nearly a third of the world’s population — said they won’t go along with a new climate treaty being drafted in Copenhagen to replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012.”

Bush senior, real american:
“”Suspicions about a deal between the Reagan campaign and Iran over the hostages have circulated since the day of President Reagan’s inaugural, when Iran agreed to release the 52 American hostages exactly five minutes after Mr. Reagan took the oath of office. Later, as it became known that arms started to flow to Iran via Israel only a few days after the inauguration, suspicions deepened that a secret arms-for-hostages deal had been concluded. Five years later, when the Iran-contra affair revealed what seemed to be a similar swap of hostages for arms delivered through Israel, questions were revived about the 1980 election. In a nice, ironic twist, the phrase `October surprise,’ which Vice Presidential candidate George Bush had coined to warn of possible political manipulation of the hostages by Jimmy Carter, began to be applied to the suspected secret activities of the 1980 Reagan-Bush campaign… In a Madrid hotel in late July 1980, an important Iranian cleric, Mehdi Karrubi, who is now the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, allegedly met with Mr. Casey [Reagan's campaign manager and later his Director of the CIA] and a U.S. intelligence officer who was operating outside authority. The same group met again several weeks later…. From Oct. 15 to Oct. 20, events came to a head in a series of meetings in several hotels in Paris, involving members of the Reagan-Bush campaign and high-level Iranian and Israeli representatives. Accounts of these meetings and the exact number of participants vary considerably among the more than 15 sources who claim direct or indirect knowledge of some aspect of them. There is, however, widespread agreement on three points: William Casey was a key participant: the Iranian representatives agreed that the hostages would not be released prior to the Presidential election on Nov. 4; in return, Israel would serve as a conduit for arms and spare parts to Iran.
China and India are emulating our long standing example.
It has been a very bad example. This must change. We will be the innovation and conservation nation. The upshot of that is we get to lead the world in the production and sale of technologies designed to be environmentally friendly.

Ah, okay.

Nations vulnerable to global warming present demands: carbon levels below 350ppm and billions in aid‘

” “Anthropogenic climate change poses an existential threat to our nations, our cultures and to our way of life, and thereby undermines the internationally-protected human rights of our people,” the declaration states, which is supported by nations attending the summit, including the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Kiribati, Barbados, Bhutan, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania. These countries have already been severely impacted by rising seas, extensive droughts, and melting glaciers.
“Developed countries bear the overwhelming historic responsibility for causing anthropogenic climate change and must therefore take the lead in responding to the challenge,” the declaration reads, outlining that this role should involve mitigation, adaptation, technology, and financing the solutions.”

I thought the Conan O’Brien quote said it all about Obama. He thought that he was going to march right in on the “change” express and the waters would part for him. And there is no doubt that Obama was very inexperienced and will have a long learning curve. He is not off to a very quick start.
“In one short year, Obama’s slogan has gone from ‘Yes, we can’ to ‘Wow, this is freakin’ hard.’”

Not that the right should underestimate obama. He is a very intelligent person who will find behind the scenes ways to make progress toward his socialist goals. And before you know it, it has happened.
So when he tells us that the “government option” is just to provide competition for the insurance companies, or that “only 2% will choose the government option” you know what’s really going on.

Question, Obama told the nation in his speach that abortion funding is absolutely NOT in the healthcare bill.
So, why the heck did the House have to make such a big deal and vote on an amendment REMOVING abortion funding?
Obama Has Said Health Bill Won’t Fund Abortion, But White House Won’t Say If He Supports Amendment to Bill That Prohibits Funding of Abortion
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
CNSNews.com) – Even though President Obama repeatedly has said that the health care bill will not allow federal funding of abortion, White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs failed three times on Monday to answer reporters’ questions about whether the president supports an amendment to the bill (an amendment approved by the House on Saturday) that would prohibit federal funds from going to health insurance plans that pay for

Yeah, sounds like she’s stepping back into more of a part-time position.
Dunn was offered the job of White House Communications Director first in January and declined because of family concerns. The job the was offered to Ellen Moran who held the position until she resigned to become Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Commerce. President Obama then asked Dunn to fill the position on an interim basis until a permanent replacement could be put in place.
It can be tough to balance the demands of a high profile job in D.C. with familial responsibilities. Sounds like Dunn has found a way to strike the right balance. Good for her.

After the shooting, the FBI is doing a new assessment — of its own conduct. The Army psychiatrist is believed to have acted alone despite repeated communications — intercepted by authorities — with a radical imam overseas, U.S. officials said Monday. The FBI will conduct an internal review to see whether it mishandled early information about the man accused in the bloody rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 29.

Surprising Victory in Seattle Mayor’s Race
By WILLIAM YARDLEY
SEATTLE — A former Sierra Club leader who rode his bicycle to campaign events and relied heavily on volunteer support claimed a narrow and surprising victory on Monday in the race for mayor of this environmentally friendly city.
“You cared, you believed, and we’ve got a lot more work to do,” Mike McGinn told supporters after the city’s mail-in election showed him winning 51 percent of the vote, by a margin of 4,939 votes out of about 190,000 cast in the mayor’s race.
He was met by the same chant he heard on the campaign trail: “We like Mike!”
His opponent had conceded a few minutes earlier.
Mr. McGinn, who was outspent more than 3 to 1 and did not receive endorsements from major political and business leaders, defeated Joe Mallahan, a vice president with T-Mobile who contributed more than $200,000 to his own campaign.

Dems Rejected 11 Amendments Requiring Congress to Enroll in Gov’t-Run

Tuesday, November 10, 2009
More than 200 amendments were rejected by the House Rules Committee ahead of Saturday’s vote on the Democrats’ health care bill, including 11 that would have required members of Congress and other government
officials to be enrolled in the same federal insurance plan proposed for the American people.
Critics of the health care bill said they offered the 11 amendments -
including some that would require the president, vice president, and
Supreme Court justices to give up their Federal Employees Health Benefit
Program (FEHBP) to enroll in the ‘public option’ or Medicaid – to
showcase the problems with the massive legislation.

Scozzafava takes on Palin
Posted: November 10th, 2009 05:20 PM ET
From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart
Washington (CNN) – Dede Scozzafava, the woman who has become the symbol of moderate Republicanism, is taking a shot at former Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, the woman who has become the darling of the Republican Party’s conservative grassroots.
In a new interview, the state assemblywoman also lets loose on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who chose to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Scozzafava, her party’s official nominee, in the closely-watched race in New York’s 23rd congressional district.
The growing conservative support for Hoffman, including the endorsements from Palin and other prominent conservatives, eventually led Scozzafava – who had been hand-picked by local party leaders – to drop out of the race just days before Election Day.
“How can Sarah Palin come out and endorse someone who can’t answer some basic questions?” Scozzafava told the Washington Post. “Do these people even know who they are endorsing?”
In the interview, Scozzafava – who ended up backing the race’s victor, Democrat Bill Owens – sounded a bitter note about how she was treated by members of her own party.
“It was organized,” Scozzafava told the Post about the attacks against her by Palin, other prominent conservative figures, and conservative advocacy groups. “There is a lot of us who consider ourselves Republicans, of the Party of Lincoln. If they don’t want us with them, we’re going to work against them.”

EPA Ready to Dole Out ‘Environmental Justice’ Grants for Budding Activists
The EPA said it expects to award approximately 40 grants of up to $25,000 each in Fiscal 2010. It will accept applications until January 8, 2010.
According to the EPA Web site, the Environmental Justice Grant Funding Program is intended to help communities “understand and address
environmental challenges and create self-sustaining, community-based partnerships focused o improving human health and the environment.”
In other words, it puts underprivileged people in touch with liberal activists and turns them into “agents of change.” (See project
descriptions below.)
The EPA defines environmental justice as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national
origin, or income with respect to development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

The point was, Christians have been called on several different times in just the history of OUR country… They have done it. Other religions have different viewpoints… If I were recruiting military personnel, I would ask the question — Could you fight in a war situation, and face people of your own faith as enemies… WHATEVER the religion…
Dog and I were specifically discussing Christians… not Muslims… not atheists… not Hindus… Christians…
MY point was simply that it has happened right here on American soil… and at least three times that I can think of…
READ: “The War Prayer,” by Mark Twin… It will open your eyes if you havent read it. IF you have read it… it will re-open your eyes… Then maybe you wont have to post nonsense in response to what Dog and I were discussing…
SECOND: Pleefer… Good grief, man… What parallel universe are you living in??
NOT ONE of your laundry list is a protected Right under the Constitution… not even Association(which would not be association, but the right to assemble)… and not even Free Speech(the WAY you described it).

must be the lib means of communicating, call people names and try to change the subject. what is next, you childish one, sticking your fingers in your ears and going “nanner nanner boo boo”?
Don’t need anything like that Chas, military people take oaths:
Oath for Enlisted
“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
Oath for Officers
“I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.”
Reg.. I know… those are oaths for inductees… My POINT was in reference to the recruiters… the Recruiters, Reg…
Nice try at yet another one of your attempts to spin something that wasnt even mentioned… Do try harder….
Poor ol’ WE Blog CONs –
Getting their asses handed to ‘em and whimpering about “lib hate.”
It must seem like hate.
When you CONs go into circle jerk mode, all you read in this forum is how much you agree with Glenn O’Hannitybaugh.
Get called on the actual specifics of your little bumper-sticker slogans and you whine about “lib hate.”
Poor wittle babies.
How many of you tea party supporters are willing to turn in your repub voter reg, indep. reg. for a tea party reg.? I bet only one or two posters, if that many.
so, mh, are you denying, then, that in the last couple days, “rage” referred to someone he disagreed with as a “deadbeat”, capn used gross anatomical insults, and chas calls out ‘idiot’.. all instead of responding to the posts made?
How in the world is that childish behavior considered “Getting their asses handed to ‘em …” as you so eloquently put it?
Raptor… au contraire… I called somebody an Idiot, who failed to properly read what I had posted, and snarked on and on about it… Better go check out your readings skills again on that one… tsk tsk

And we also know he spent 30 minutes watching a United States Marine getting dressed in a public dressing room.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure Monkey out.
Awful lot of posters talking about this of late. Must be a conspiracy.
“Raptor” –
I’ve been the target of plenty of insults from WE Blog CONs. Name-calling, attempts to draw me into snark-fests, y’know….
I think ol’ “BlueJay’s” been called an assorted number of synonyms for “deadbeat,” regularly from assorted WE Blog CONs. I guess I failed to catch the “gross anatomical insults” you whine about. Fill me in on those and I’ll comment.
As for “Chas” calling people “idiots,” that seems more erudite than “Boxlock20″ calling the pastor “Chas the Spaz.”
But none of these slurs prompt me to whine and whimper about “CON hate.” WE Blog CONs, on the other hand… well, you know.
Fox News’ Glenn Beck will now have five consecutive New York Times Bestsellers with the release of his new book, The Christmas Sweater: A Picture Book.

Fellow Patriots,
This past weekend we witnessed a gruesome abuse of power. Indeed, Congress passed dangerous healthcare legislation that represents a clear and blunt attack on our rights and liberties as Americans.
Our team has worked hard over the past 24 hours to determine our next course of action, and the folks behind TaxDayTeaParty.com are with us in this next step.
This morning we launched an aggressive new committee called Liberty First PAC. In our first 5 hours of being live, we have more than $35,000 pledged and we’ve raised about $4,000 of it to kick things off.
If you think all incumbents who supported this monstrosity of a bill should be removed from office, we need you to join us and take the pledge.
In doing so, you pledge NOT to vote or support an incumbent who supported this legislation. You also pledge to help us promote a candidate that will help defeat them.
Are you with us? Then take the pledge now.

Why no, no I haven’t Cosmos. Not that I’ve bothered to look. But I do have a story for you.
My mother in law had this yappy little dog that could really jump. He stayed inside most of the time. But when he was put out, he would soon hang around the back screen door that had a solid bottom with glass starting about a third of the way up. Cosmos would soon yap and leap high so that he could be seen through the glass in an effort to get someone to notice. Again and again and again. It was quite a sight.
You are cute Chas, but I already got a dog.
ACORN isn’t my show. It’s law enforcement across the land going nuts over Obama’s ACORN.

Senior Official: More Hasan Ties to People Under Investigation by FBI
A senior government official tells ABC News that investigators have found that alleged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan had “more unexplained connections to people being tracked by the FBI” than just radical cleric Anwar al Awlaki. The official declined to name the individuals but Congressional sources said their names and countries of origin were likely to emerge soon.
…
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Hasan gave a PowerPoint presentation to fellow Army doctors in 2007 in which he said, “It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims.” He recommended that Muslim soldiers be given the option of being released from the military as conscientious objectors to decrease what he called “adverse events.” Under “comments,” he wrote, “We love death more than you love life.”

Did Neanderthals Have Sex with Modern Humans?
Friday, November 06, 2009
We are currently the only human species alive, but as recently as 24,000 years ago another one walked the earth – the Neanderthals.
These extinct humans were the closest relatives we had, and tantalizing new hints from researchers suggest that we might have been intimately
close indeed. The mystery of whether Neanderthals and us had sex might be solved if the entire Neanderthal genome is reported soon as expected.

How did Obama vote on this?
I found the info on Neanderthals. It appears likely that Chas descended from a long line of Neanderthal Preachers:
http://www.counterbalance.org/ghc-evo/neand-body.html
There is evidence of ‘religious’ practice amongst at least some Neanderthal populations – the embryonic position and east-west orientation of some burials, burial with grave ‘goods’ such as flinttools, the possible scattering of flower blossoms – grape hyacinth, hollyhock and grounsel and boughs of pine – over the dead, the circlingof a grave with six pairs of goat horns.
Note the similarities here, and a Chas funeral celebration today:

The Neanderthal skull of Monte Circeo points to a gruesome possibly religious practice of Chas’ ancestors.
The Monte Circeo skull belonged to a Neanderthal who was killed in his mid-40’s. It was found on the floor of a cave surrounded by a circle of stones. Evidence points to two blows to the head, pointing to a violent death, perhaps a ritual murder. This mutilation is identical to the one produced by head-hunters of Borneo and Melanesia (Chas’ relatives who are still alive today and descended from Neanderthals).
The Borneo and Melanesian head hunters extracted the brain and ate it for ritual and social purposes, one of which is necessary in order to assign a name to the newborn. In certain tribes of New Guinea, a newborn child receives a name only after the killing and beheading of a man whose name is known. A relative mutilates the base of the skull of the victim, extracts his brain, bakes it with sago, and eats it, after which the infant may bear the name of the dead one. The mutilated skull is kept as a sacred object in the home of the newborn child.
(Obamacare may provide for this same ritual, in order to ration care and make sure that newborns and younger people are able to receive healthcare.)
And as for the Borneo and Melanesian head hunters, their gruesome custom is practiced by tribes that are not particularly bloodthirsty or aggressive and have rather high morals. The ritual cannibalism is performed as a strict obligation toward the community (for the greater good), and for the newborn.
When the Dutch government tried to stop this tradition, the tribes revolted. They said, “We have to give names to our children! How could we handle it otherwise?”
Strangely, the current modern-day Neanderthals sacrifice the newborns (aborting them) to make life easier for the older Neanderthals. And the dead child usually is not named, nor is the baby’s skull kept as a sacred object, it simply gets tossed in the dumpster.

And that just between him and me, we know that the fire fighters initiation wasn’t jack sheat to what he had been through in his trial by fire to earn the title United States Marine. A very great and honorable achievement to become a fire fighter! But we know. (and yes hawling fire hoses up the tower is a physically challenging event.)
But no matter how long he lives, no matter how many children he has, or eventures he endures – there is none that will surpass or achieve the standing in his memory as graduation day.
He is a welcome and proud member of a very elite corps.
God bless him.

NEW ORLEANS – State investigators raided ACORN offices on Friday, taking away computer hard drives and documents as part of a probe into alleged embezzlement and tax fraud when the organization’s national headquarters was based in New Orleans.
“This is an investigation of everything — ACORN, the national organization, the local organization and all of its affiliated entities, specifically as it relates to any potential violations of Louisiana law,” Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell said.
ACORN staff on the scene declined to comment, but an attorney for the group said in a statement the raid was prompted by allegations that former ACORN employees had removed or altered electronic documents and may do so in the future.

I guess that you also don’t know What date marks the “foreseeable future”.
Or how the people on the the OISM petition publicly “retract their signatures”.

Dumbazz Roeder, confesses to the media because he thinks he’s going to use the ‘necessity defense’ but tonight his lawyers say no way, since there isn’t such a defense. Will he now retract his confession?
Maybe he’ll now use the “he had it comin’ defense”.

I think you need to drop your pretext of accusation and attitude. It servers no purpose.
=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Your concern is duly noted.
*rolls eyes*
You know, up thread there were three posters piling on Chas and posting utter non-sense trying to get a rise out of him. That really doesn’t serve any purpose either, does it?
Where was your concern then?
Gotta get my beauty sleep. Long day tomorrow.
At 8 am, Daniel is giving me Google lessons.
At 10 am, Chas is giving a bible study, with a focus on gay verses and 99 reasons why beastiality is not such a bad thing as long as a condom is used and consent is obtained.
BJ at 1 pm is giving lessons on self-reliance.
Monkey is providing ballet lesson at 2 pm, then sensitivity training afterwards.
Capn is providing a Marxist lesson at 3 pm, with a special feature on why Government Owned GM is such a good thing for the UAW.
Some lessie farmer is gonna provide planting lessons at 4 pm and will display 99 ways to use a hoe handle.
Finally I get a home cooked meal and lessons on the joy of raising children from PMom at 6 pm.
Long day ahead, yes sireee.
What purpose does this post serve, Regular? Where is your admonishment for American_Way?

For all the strut a Semper Fi” screechers –
Here’s a film to put on your Netflix queue:
Taking Chance
” Based on an article by Marine Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, this HBO original film tells the story of Strobl’s emotional experience traveling across America as a volunteer escort officer for the body of fallen 19-year-old marine Chance Phelps. Along the 2004 journey to Phelps’ hometown in Wyoming, Strobl (portrayed by Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon) witnesses — and is moved by — acts of respect by everyday Americans.”
Pretty poignant such things happen every day.
“Heh, heh…
What are the rights of the undead according to the Constitution? Do they have any 14th Amendment protections?
Pleefer, can I get a ruling, here?”-Dantheman
====================================================
Well, in my professional opinion, the undead in question would of course had to have been born in or a naturalized citizen of the USA prior to expiration. If that be the case, then of course, 14th Amendment protections would apply.
People who are “pro life” must never have been forced to live with a teenager.

With an eraser.
Raptor–
You really are one big baby. I can’t take your extremely tiresome whining.
You’re on ignore.
Regular intones, I’ve read about 10 different versions of that story . . .
Yeah, one original lie by the lying liars, and then re-posted endlessly by the right-wing blogosphere who care not whether it is true or not.
Did it also say that Obama is a Muslim, that he was born in Kenya, that he refuses to release his “vault copy” birth certificate, that he hates whites even though his mother was white and he was raised by whites, that the health care bill has “death panels”?
You mean those sources, Regular?
Then there’s “okobserver” jumping all over the “Obama’s Senior Thesis” hoax as if it were real.
It takes about ten minutes of listening to wing-nut radio or the Pox Noise Channel to get all the WE Blog CONs’ talking points du jour.
Kinda sad to watch every day, really.
But it’s what angry white males in Kansas thrive on.
Heh, MHawk.
And who can forget the cream of the Republic crop standing in front of photos of heaped bodies from a Nazi CONcentration camp saying “this is Obama-care?”
The party of Lincoln willfully turning itself into the party of Joe McCarthy and Rush Limbaugh.
Raptor whines like the little girl he is in the last couple days, “rage” referred to someone he disagreed with as a “deadbeat”, capn used gross anatomical insults . . .
It’s true that in jest I said that you had no thing.
I had no idea that it was true, which judging from your response it was.
My apologies–war wound or something, eh?
Anyway, you’re still on ignore.
I’m gonna re-post this on tomorrow’s Open Thread –
But for you insomniacs and late owls –
The Parable of the Old Man and the Young
by Wilfred Owen
So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,
And took the fire with him, and a knife.
And as they sojourned both of them together,
Isaac the first-born spake and said, My Father,
Behold the preparations, fire and iron,
But where the lamb for this burnt-offering?
Then Abram bound the youth with belts and strops,
And builded parapets and trenches there,
And stretched forth the knife to slay his son.
When lo! an angel called him out of heaven,
Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the lad,
Neither do anything to him. Behold,
A ram, caught in a thicket by its horns;
Offer the Ram of Pride instead of him.
But the old man would not so, but slew his son,
And half the seed of Europe, one by one.

The poet, Wilfred Owen, wrote this in a trench.
He was killed in action on November 4, 1918.
According to legend, the telegram announcing his death was delivered to his parent the exact moment — the 11th minute of the 11th day of the 11th month — just as church bells started peeling to mark the first Armistice day.
The specifics of the story are probably too good to be true.
But Wilfred Owen’s poetry is real and good and timeless.
