Are the official pleas to get an H1N1 vaccine coming into conflict with a high distrust of government, at least in Kansas? In the latest SurveyUSA poll, sponsored by KWCH, Channel 12, 60 percent of those surveyed said they would not be getting the vaccine, with 33 percent of those folks saying they don’t believe the vaccine is safe.
On the safety question: Andrew Pekosz, an associate professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, told the Washington Post that all the data indicates the H1N1 vaccine is “just as safe as the regular seasonal flu” vaccine, adding that “this was expected, since the 2009 H1N1 vaccine is made in exactly the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine.”

Of course the fears are founded. Us Democrats have inserted nano-technology into the vaccine that, when either injected or snorted, rushes directly to the brain, instantly turns any Republican wingnut thoughts into progressive thinking, and imprints the words, “Obama is your mama” onto their thought center. Then immediately connects with all other vaccine receivers, and forces them to vote Democrat.
My bad. Should read: and forces them to join ACORN and vote Democrat . . . twice.
Socialism! All of you Cons need to avoid this Socialist program at all costs!
Don’t get a flu shot!
This survey demonstrates the cronic persistence of ignorance.
Dang it, XXX, I was trying to be subtle about it.
Next they will pass out Small pox laced blankets!
It worked with the Indians and no one pays attention to history so it may work again!
Why should it matter to those who will take the vaccine if someone wishes not to? Won’t you be protected? And besides, those that choose not to take will be eliminated and will thin the herd for your benefit…if the propaganda proves true. It just seems kinda funny that a live virus is sprayed up the nose, then wen you sneeze, the live virus is sprayed back out into the air for someone else to breathe. Kinda fulfills the prophecy, no?
But hey, we live in a free country, you should be able to put whatever you want in your body.
But if you try and force me to put it in mine…you’re going to get hurt, badly.
This is one of the reasons that those of us who don’t want it, won’t get it:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2009-08-14-nigeria-polio_N.htm
You people try and make it a political issue. And that shows your complete stupidity and ignorance on anything and everything.
Do what you want, it’s your body. But don’t redicule those who choose not to bite into the hype and live on fear. If we die, you’ll get to laugh and say that “you told us so”.
And vice-versa.

Y’know? If they wanted to, Tamiflu could put antifreeze in the vial, then into you body. And you couldn’t say schitt about it. But again, do what you want.

“Pleefer” –
Dial it back a bit.
No one has to risk the Vaccine Police hunting you down to forcibly inoculate you.
Any kind of flu you get makes you miserable for a while and a shot that can prevent it seems… I dunno, logical?
The vaccine is not likely to make you autistic, “Pleefer” (although such a side effect would probably be redundant in your case, what with your apparent brain damage which reflects a life of bashing your head against a concrete wall).
The virus, on the other hand, kills some people.
Your call.
JM is that what happened to you and XXX. You took the flu shot. You had better check to see if it is reversible.
We’ll agree to disagree then.
Nice of you to make fun of autistic kids like that though, real progressive and good of ya.
Life kills all people.
I for one, will not be getting the H1n1 vaccine. I was an unwilling participant in the 1970s swine flue vaccine program. I was in the US Navy and all members of our command were required to get the shot. 2/3 later came down with the swine flu.
This year, once again, we have the government pushing a vaccine. maybe it has been tested enough, maybe not. In my opinion, it was too rushed. In any case, though I am in a targetted group (healthcare worker), I will pass. It seems the H1N1 so far is quite contagious, but not terriblly high in mortality. Thanks, but I will take my chances. And will probably have made the wrong move, but life is full of chances.
The H1N1 vaccine is not even here yet – and from the looks of things – there will be a shortaqe. So why are the CONS here on this blog got their panties in a bunch?
The first vaccines are for the doctors, nurses and people who have chronic medical conditions. So it is highly unlikely most of the CONS on this blog site falls into those categories – unless being an Obama-hater, sourpuss 24/7 qualifies as a chronic medical condition?
Bottom line – no one is making anyone get this vaccine.
totoinks-
Once again, you are simply wrong. In fact, many areas of Kansas have already received an initial supply of the vaccine. Here is a simple link to one.

Second, I don;t see any
“CONS here on this blog got their panties in a bunch?”
And I don’t see anyone stating anyone is being MADE to get the vaccine.
Your rhetoric seems to surpass the truth.

===================
Damn you’re dumb.
Here is another

LIBS, hurry-up! Go take your H1N1 vaccine!
It’s as safe as that koolaide you’ve been drinkin for years.
I had an uncle I never met. He was my mom’s oldest brother. Glen died in 1918 at the age of 14 of an H1N1 type flu virus, along with anywhere from 50 to 100 million other people in the world from that pandemic. Nobody at the time had even considered the possibility that the “Spanish Flu” was that virulent. Maybe if you considered history, you could be better off that my uncle and all the rest of those folks who though it could never happen to them- until it did. You at least have an option my uncle never did. Go get the damn vaccine!
Go get the damn vaccine!-Jed
===========================
No.
Jed-
I understand your viewpoint. However, the vaccine that is currently available is actually live virus.
Like 1976. I got ill then, I have no wish to get ill now. It has nothing to do (for me) with government conspiracy, politics, or anything else. I am not sure it wasn;t just hurried out, because of governmental fear and need to “do something” Nothing to do with the current administration, or Congress. In a hurry to “do something” I am unsure it was done correctly. For the time being, and with the fact I am not a young adult (Damn I wish I was sometimes) I will pass. My only thought otherwise is that as a healthcare worker, my exposure possibility is greatly increased.
I could
News Reports from 1976-77 regarding the Flu Vaccine are very interesting:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=pPoRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=te0DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6265,2759602&dq=flu+vaccine&hl=en
You hear the same rhetoric in 2009 as you did in 1976: The Vaccine is Safe – Just Take It!!!!
Afterall, it’s been tested now for several weeks, in humans.
I am far from sweating the idea that I’m gonna be forced to get it. That’s left to our military and New York health care workers.
I’m uptight about the fact that those who don’t want to get are being vilified because of it.
You people want to make all who don’t want it, out to be “cons” or paranoids or anything else that you can dream of. It has ZILCH to do with a political stance, ya half wits.
The “vaccine fears are unfounded”.
The very use of the word “fear” is leading and disinformation to begin with, as it can be used in direct opposition to not getting it.
You that are going to recieve the vaccine have the, so far unfounded, “fear” that you will be stricken with a virus that has not yielded any more drastic an effect than that of the seasonal flu.
The concerns that we have over the rushed job vaccine, full of adjuvants are valid.
“Cons” can’t be doctors or nurses? Weird.
Now, to go on a tangent here. Is this a form of “con” health care or is this “lib” health care?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6298866/Terminally-ill-grandmother-left-to-starve-by-doctors.html
I’m guessing this is what is headed our way.
Good post Pleefer.
I think I’ve got a flu shot twice in the last 10-15 years.
I likely wouldn’t get the H1N1 anyway, but the fact it hasn’t been tested as rigously as others does factor into my choice on whether or not to get it this year.
lj,
Yes, one variety (the nasal spray) of the H1N1 vaccine is a live virus that has been modified to make it non-virulent. This is similar to the original smallpox vaccine which was a live non-virulent strain of the smallpox virus, known as cowpox. It worked, nobody grew horns or started chewing his cud as the religious freaks of the day hysterically predicted, and today, smallpox is no more. If the idea of a live-virus vaccine scares you, get the shot! If shots scare you, you’ve got other problems you really ought to deal with, and soon.
Pssssst! Don’t tell the cons the vaccine’s safe, time to cleanse the gene pool in Ks.!
“If shots scare you, you’ve got other problems you really ought to deal with, and soon.”
Reaching there Jed.
I have not had a flu shot since the swine flue epedemic in 1976. I have not had the flu since i got the flu from the swine flu shot administered in 1976.
I am not afraid of shots. I have had more shots than i care to think about. I continue to be vaccinated on a regular schedule for tetanus, etc. I am tested for TB and other things on a regular basis. Why would you think otherwise?
Again, this has nothing to do with politics. And yes, the 1976 swine flu vaccine was with live but impotent virus. And yes, it was safe. and yes, 2/3 of my crew came down sick.
Perhaps I will change my mind. But historinics will not get me there.
That’s the spirit Phantom! I’m thinking the same ’bout you all. We’ll see who gets there first!
Yes indeedy, that is the spirit of fair play.
lj,
If you don’t want it for whatever crazy reason, please, do us all a favor and turn it down. Means more vaccine available for the rest of us. Of course if you do turn it down, you really ought to do your patients a favor and take an extended vacation from them as well.
Unfounded my behind. There are serious risks with the vaccines and even the CDC had to confess that it tampered with the results of its own study. If there was nothing to hide, why are they skewing results?
The government and their drug czars have a strong interest in keeping the bad effects and bad news about vaccines suppressed. I will not take any vaccine unless my benefit far outweighs the risk.
