Talk show hosts join Taliban in denouncing peace prize

limbaughFrom Eugene Robinson’s column: “The president of the United States wins the Nobel Peace Prize and Rush Limbaugh joins with the Taliban in bitterly denouncing the award? Glenn Beck has a conniption fit and demands that the president not accept what may be the world’s most prestigious honor? The Republican National Committee issues a statement sarcastically mocking our nation’s leader — elected, you will recall, by a healthy majority — as unworthy of such recognition? Why, oh why, do conservatives hate America so?”

Why? Because they lost the election and now can do nothing but whine like little girls. Remember how they whined about Obama not being born in America, runs with terrorists, raised a Muslim, yadda, yadda, yadda, during the election? A lot of good that did them. They lost and now they whine. Who cares; they’re as useless as te ats on a chicken.

THE NOBEL PRIZE TO OBAMA: EUROPE’S BID TO RE-COLONIZE AMERICA
By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann
    10.9.2009

Whether it was rewarding Jimmy Carter for criticizing the Iraq War or supporting Al Gore in his crusade against global warming, the Norwegian Parliament – which chooses the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize – has sought to use the award as a political tool to influence American politic s. Its prestige and moral power make the prize a potent weapon with which to help steer the direction of the colossus beyond the seas that controls a quarter of the world’s economy and most of its military power.
Now, the Norwegians have weighed in to support Barack Obama in his bid to reshape America so it looks more like, well, Norway, or at least like Europe.

European socialism cannot succeed without conquering the United States. If the European Union has high taxes and the US keeps its levies low, business and brains will flow to America. If the EU’s labor standards require long vacations, high benefits, and proscribe layoffs and ours’ do not, employers will migrate across the ocean to do their business in the States. If the Old World curbs ambition by taxation, regulation, and social opprobrium, the ambitious will flock to the New World as they have done for four hundred years.

So, Lenin was right. Socialism cannot exist in just one country – or one continent. It must dominate worldwide or wealth and power will flow to those who remain committed to the free market. Europe realizes this reality and it makes Obama’s election as president of the United States all the more welcome.

The Nobel Prize is really Obama’s payback for disciplining the unruly United States and taming it to be a member of the European family of nations. Europe wants to reverse the American Revolution and re-colonize us and it sees in Obama a kindred spirit willing to do its bidding.

Does the United States let its entrepreneurs run wild, coming up with fanciful new ideas and making billions from them? Obama will regulate and subdue business just like they do in Europe. Do U.S. businesses compete by slashing prices, aggressively pursuing markets, and jockeying for market share? Obama will make them behave themselves and stay in line just like European companies do. Do Americans work hard and push aggressively to make as much money as they can? Obama will raise taxes, emphasize community values, and narcotize their ambition by offering government largesse.

And does the United States still believe in a sloppy, contrarian democracy in which ordinary people can directly affect their government, states have powers, and courts can reel in executive authority? Obama will use his rubber stamp majority in Congress to pass new laws regardless of public opinion and make us obey.

In foreign policy, is the United States still willing to stand up, alone if necessary, to protect human rights in Bosnia, in Iraq, and in Afghanistan? Obama will curb this unruly independence and mold it within the fabric of appeasement that has dominated Europe for the past half a century.

All this heavy lifting, this conversion of America into a European state, deserves a reward. And what is a more fitting one than to give Obama than the Nobel Peace Prize? He obviously doesn’t deserve the award for economics or, given his health care ideas, for medicine. But the Peace Prize expresses Europe’s longing: to take back the nation its overly ambitious and uppity children founded.

    From gop.com:
Republican National Committee In light of President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize Award…
For what other awards should President Obama be nominated?
    option 1:1. Heisman Trophy
option 2:2. Hollywood Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award
option 3:3. Bud Light’s Real Men of Genius Award
option 4:4. America’s Next Top Model
option 5:5. Humility In Action Award From Arianna Huffington

The Taiban is right, in this case. So what? Not surprised that Eugene Robinson would make such an intellectually vacant argument.

And if Obama had refused the award, which he knows was given as a political suck up, he would have taken a big step in improving his popularity with moderates and conservatives.

“improving his popularity with moderates and conservatives”

Moderates voted overwhelmingly for Obama in the last election.

As for improving his popularity with conservatives?

Barack Obama was elected as a liberal to enact a liberal agenda. Why would it be important to improve his popularity with the Con/Republican side of the aisle?

President Obama, go get your prize. Whether you “earned” it or not doesn;t matter, the judges decided to reward you with it. As far as the “talk show hosts agree with the Taliban”, just more inflammatory talk from other talking heads. BIg deal. THey also happen to agree with other Nobel Peace Prize winners like Lech Walensa, but that doesn;t make a big splash headline, does it? Nor does it serve to do what is really desired, to quiet and discredit those who disagree with the Obama administration and it’s lackeys.

Just more folly of American foreign policy. Charlie Wilsin was a scumbag and if you knew some of the things he did to get his war up and running, you’d pee yourself.

I think a better understanding of the region may help some of those commenting. The Taliban were just as surprised as you and I when 9/11 happened.

Obama’s foreign policy is very close to that of Bush’s.

Truth is war’s first casualty. The Afghan War’s biggest untruth is, “we’ve got to fight terrorists over there so we don’t have to fight them at home.” Politicians and generals keep using this canard to justify a war they can’t otherwise explain or justify.

Many North Americans still buy this lie because they believe the 9/11 attacks came directly from the Afghanistan-based al-Qaida and Taliban movements.

Not true. The 9/11 attacks were planned in Germany and Spain, and conducted mainly by US-based Saudis to punish America for supporting Israel’s repression of the Palestinians.

The Taliban are offspring of American intervention in Afghanistan during the 1980’s. Is it really that far-fetched that they have the same opinion?

If people would remove their bias towards the Taliban and realize that they had nothing to do with 9/11, we may actually get somewhere in this country.

I’m afraid the simple explanations of the mainstream media about a complex situation have clouded everyones judgements.

    Reg and Chas,
The Taliban, a militant religious, anti-Communist movement are just Pashtun tribesmen from the North.

Taliban received US aid until May, 2001. The CIA was planning to use Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida to stir up Muslim Uighurs against Chinese rule, and to employ Taliban against Russia’s Central Asian allies. Most of the so-called “terrorist training camps” in Afghanistan were being run by Pakistani intelligence to prepare mujahidin fighters for combat in Indian-held Kashmir.

Today, half of Afghanistan is under Taliban control. Anti-American militants could more easily use Somalia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, North and West Africa, or Sudan. They don’t need remote Afghanistan. The 9/11 attacks were planned in apartments, not camps.

However backwards and oafish its Pashtun tribesmen, they have no desire or interest in attacking America. Taliban are the sons of the US-backed mujahidin who defeated the Soviets in the 1980’s. Taliban never was America’s enemy. Instead of invading Afghanistan in 2001, the US should have paid Taliban to uproot al-Qaida.

The Pashtun tribes want to end foreign occupation and drive out the Afghan Communists and drug lords, who now dominate the US-installed Kabul regime. But the US has blundered into a full-scale war not just with Taliban, but with most of Afghanistan’s fierce Pashtun tribes, who comprise over half the population.

Get your facts straight and quit perpetuating a war mongering foreign policy that is nothing but folly for the annals of history.

Good to see people against the Mujahadin. Too bad that is who we backed and strengthened in the 1980’s.

Like it or not, America had a hand in creating the Taliban because of their foreign policy of intervention.

Also good to see Chas and Reg agreeing on our foreign policy. As long as you agree on the policy, all the details are unimportant. Once again you show how little difference exist between the two party oligopoly in this country.

    Sorry Austrian_Economist,

Taliban are a form of radical Sunni, while Mujahidin are Sufi’s.

They may be of the same ethnic origins, but they practice Islam in entirely different ways, have different customs and different way of governing. The Sufi Mujahidin tend to be tribal.

    So what?

If there ever was a pointless thread, sparked by a pointless column, this is it.

I know that the left loves smear by association; the tactic, among others (the everpopular “racist” charge for anyone they disagree with springs to mind), is its stock in trade. But this is perhaps the saddest example.

And let’s face it: the “I’m sure glad you’re not Bush” prize illustrates the joke that the “Peace” prize has become. The committee refused to award the prize to Mahatma Ghanda, choosing instead to award to that most sensitive of peacelovers, Yassir Arafat. Bombing women and children is so peaceful, ya know.

Some of this years less deserving nominees, turned aside for The One:

-Denis Mukwege, who had the audacity to treat rape victims in the midst of civil war in the Congo. Sorry, no prize for you.

-Sima Simar, who set up clinics and schools for women and girls in the face of resistance by the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Silly girl.

-Ghazi bin Muhammad, who dared to speak to the “religion of peace” about actually becoming a religion of peace. Too bad for you.

-Greg Mortenson, who built dozens of schools, many for girsl, in Afghanistan in the face of religious fatwas, claiming people build peace, not politics. Pakistan awarded him its highest honor. The Norwegian socialists – not so much.

-Piedad Córdoba, Columbia’s “Woman of Peace” who served as a mediator in hostage release negotiations between the gov’t and FARC, Columbia’s leftist guerrillas/cocaine producers. In doing so, she was kidnapped herself. Freed and exiled after 14 months in captivity, she came back to pick up her work. Ignored.

-Wei Jingsheng, nominated seven times for daring to advocate democracy in Communist China, and was jailed for 18 years for his trouble. Nobel Prize? Nope.

Instead, the President got it for not being Bush and giving a couple of dazzling speaches. Congratulations.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/and-the-other-nobel-peace-prize-nominees-were-1801350.html

    —————-
Glad you asked Sol, here’s the answer:

How to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 12 days

    Fox News

January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.

January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an “open house” party at the White House.

January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manual techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo (how’s that working out?)

January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.

January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.

    January 25: Skipped church.

January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner’s swearing in ceremony.

January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.

January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.

January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.

January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.

January 31: Took the day off.

February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.

So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.

For one thing, Barack Obama won the election.

He won the election against a guy who spent the campaign singing
    “BOMB! BOMB! BOMB!
    BOMB-BOMB IRAN!”

After November 4, 2008, the world saw an America that was going to do things thoughtfully and in a spirit of cooperation with the rest of the world. After 8 years of Shrub, who waged unilateral unprovoked war which has killed more than 4,500 Americans and permanently crippled 10,000 more, the international community saw in Obama’s election a sign Americans have come to their senses.

For all their screeching about this administration, CONs fail to realize they’re a marginalized minority, even in the Repubic Party.

Rush Limbaugh himself crows he and the Taliban agree.

President Obama admitted, “…now we need to earn it.”

I’m pretty confident if President Obama decided to airlift every American man, woman, and child out of Iraq and Afghanistan tomorrow, “JimJohnson” would bray stuff like, “Cut and run! Cut and run!”

I understand that white Norwegian socialists make the call, and it’s their prize and all (so they can do what they want), but that does not immunize them from criticism. To blindly adore The One as deserving is a joke. Of course, ignoring Ghandi for years while giving the ‘peace’ prize to a bomber of women and children is kind of a joke, too. It’s been a while since the Peace Prize had any real credibility, after all. Gore won it for the infomercial for his cap & trade business, after all. . . . .

Troll-monkey slithers out of his coffin, and starts up the ramp from the basement he resides in to the computer closet, where he spends his waking hours banging his head on the keyboard in the hope of posting something meaningful. Half way up the ramp, he starts slipping back down, and realizes he will have to dig his one front tooth into the ramp dirt in order to stop the slide. Using this technique, he eventually makes it to the top of the ramp. He contemplates the fact he will now have to replace the tooth again. This time, he vows to make it out of something other than wood.

He stops by the dog bowl, and drinks deeply from it, angered at having to spit out the dog hairs that float there. He thinks, Maybe I’ll use the dog’s teeth. He continues on to the closet, and pulls himself into his specially designed Barbi chair, complete with pink bow and two extra wigs (batteries not included).

He turns on the computer, and after boot up, opens WeBlog and prepares to start pounding. He bangs his head on the keyboard and looks at the screen: ^//j80=g5ll~~$6@ok. NO . . . He turns off the computer and slithers back to his coffin, where he falls into a deep slumber, dreaming of watching Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh in the throws of ecstasy.

    http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2007/press.html
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 is to be shared, in two equal parts, between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.

Indications of changes in the earth’s future climate must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and with the precautionary principle uppermost in our minds. Extensive climate changes may alter and threaten the living conditions of much of mankind. They may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth’s resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world’s most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states.

Through the scientific reports it has issued over the past two decades, the IPCC has created an ever-broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming. Thousands of scientists and officials from over one hundred countries have collaborated to achieve greater certainty as to the scale of the warming. Whereas in the 1980s global warming seemed to be merely an interesting hypothesis, the 1990s produced firmer evidence in its support. In the last few years, the connections have become even clearer and the consequences still more apparent.

Al Gore has for a long time been one of the world’s leading environmentalist politicians. He became aware at an early stage of the climatic challenges the world is facing. His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change. He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.

By awarding the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 to the IPCC and Al Gore, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is seeking to contribute to a sharper focus on the processes and decisions that appear to be necessary to protect the world’s future climate, and thereby to reduce the threat to the security of mankind. Action is necessary now, before climate change moves beyond man’s control.”
