Suddenly Moran cares about ‘czars’

czarsReps. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, and Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, have been trying to out-conservative each other in their GOP primary contest next year for the U.S. Senate. Nearly every week, one or the other issues a press release aimed at appealing to some right-wing concern, real or imagined. Last week Moran introduced a resolution calling on President Obama to stop appointing “czars.” But as experts told a Senate panel last week, “czar” is a made-up media term, and such advisers have been common among past presidents. FactCheck.org determined that President George W. Bush had more such advisers than President Obama does. That caused Kenny Johnston, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, to observe: “For eight years Jerry Moran said nothing as Bush made a record number of executive appointments. To speak up now is nothing more than an attempt to court far-right primary voters.”

Note to very popular Kansas Congressman Jerry Moran: Politics is a “work in progress.” Keep up the good work.

Both Moran and Tiahrt get their marching orders from the C-street family, so it makes no difference which one runs.

That’s so true, JMWalker! The only redeeming part of this contest is that one of them will eliminate the other from Kansas politics (at least for awhile).

A question to be asked of Moran is:

What have you really done for Kansas as a congressman?

    Answer: Nothing!

Now that you are running for the US Senate it appears you are making up things to do so that you appear to be a productive congressman.

You have taken no tough stands on major issues, you have not introduced anything of substance and you do not seem capable of making a decision on how to vote until you have checked which way the wind is blowing.

Mr. Moran, do you really want to walk this silly walk and talk this silly talk?
    How about some statesmanship?

What’s really odd is sitting here on the sidelines and watching the building vitriol between the Moran and Tea-heart camps.

We have two candidates here with nearly identical records. There is no substantive difference so partisans have to make ‘em up. CONs are so good at making stuff up.

    It will become a bloodbath.

Tiahrt’s likely to play the “Mezkin” card in Moron’s western Kansas district. Moron’s gonna go low-key-but-dirty in northeast Kansas.

In other words, Tiahrt is focusing on Kansas-ness (such as it is) and Moran’s gonna push his credibility in Washington. It’s gonna get ugly.

In the meantime, the Democrats have a slight chance to come up with a candidate whose not a western Kansan. Kansas has traditionally sent its Senators with a division between western-ness and eastern-ness. Kassebaum was living in Wichita but she was a true Topeka Republican. Sam (the Sham) Brownback got a lot of votes when he claimed to be pro-choice.

Roberts inherited Bob Dole’s role as the “western” Senator.

If only there were an eastern-Kansas Democrat with a deep understanding of the issues and a way of understanding political dynamics.

Unfortunately, I am not now — nor have I ever been — a candidate for the United States Senator from Kansas.

    (Count your blessings, CONs.)

Linda I have watched you mount a campaign to help Moran win the republican primary. My question I guess to you is why do you think Moran will be a better candidate than Tiahrt. Have you looked at the candidates themselves to see which one would better represent Kansas in the US Senate.

If you are just an obstructionist then just say that and we will move on. If you really care about the state then help me and other voters in this primary to see why Moran should be our candidate of choice.

When did elections cease to be about putting the best person in office?

Since when does anyone need to explain why and how they will cast their vote?

I have and will continue to post about the importance of being a part of the decision of who will be the next Senator from Kansas. My efforts are aimed at anyone who may not understand that the primary race will probably decide that, and remind them they must be registered Republican to vote in this race. We are Kansans and we should want to participate in this decision!

There is no best person (in my opinion) in this race between Moran and Tiahrt. I do think there is one who is worse than the other. I’m often embarrassed by Tiahrt who is unable to speak without sounding like the dolt I think he is. I listen carefully when he speaks whether it is on the floor of the House, telephone town halls, town hall meetings where he appears in person… Never have I heard Tiahrt actually say anything that made any sense. He can use more words to say nothing than most politicians (quite an accomplishment!).

Mainly, I’m aware the most effective way to get rid of either of these two is to have one take the other out. It’s like a gift! I’ll take it!

We each get a vote. I will make my own decision of where mine is cast and expect each voter will do the same.

Grannie – you’ve got to be kidding, right? Moran is preferable to alot of moderate people because he is not such a right-wing religious fanatic as Tiarht. Moderate people don’t want some wannabe preacher in their Senate seat.

And if one is truly a fiscal conservative Republican, then one has to vote for Moran because he did not vote for the Medicare Prescription bill pushed through by George W. Bush with the full support of Tiarht. Talk about raising the deficit – that government-run health care program added how many billions to the deficit?

Besides, Linda has every right to tell people how to switch parties and vote for Moran. This is America and this is how the election process works.

If you don’t like democracy where each person has the right to their own vote (for whatever reason they choose), then perhaps you would be happier living in one of those Muslim countries where the religious cleric leaders tell everyone how to vote?

And last but not least, Rush Limbaugh endorsed this tactic of having the opposition party switch sides in the primaries to get the ‘right’ person elected.

If it’s good enough for Rush, by God, it’s good for the Democrats. Don’t you agree?

    Posted October 12, 2009 at 10:09 am | Permalink

And I am aware that Moran lives in the C Street Christian House but he is still preferable to Tiarht. When I think about religious fanaticism, Moran’s name does not even come into my mind – but Tiarht’s name does.

Again, those intolerant Conservative Christians are going to bring the GOP to their knees.

Besides, I just want to see Tiarht’s face when he loses.

A transcript from a 1997 speech shows that sodomite safe schools czar Kevin Jennings in the U.S. Department of Education expressed his admiration for Harry Hay, one of the nation’s first homosexual activists, who launched the Mattachine Society in 1948, founded the Radical Faeries and was a longtime advocate for the North American Man-Boy Love Association, NAMBLA, an organization that promotes sodomizing underage boys (pederasty). Jennings also encouraged a 15-year-old schoolboy in being sodomized by an older man.

To the average non-thinking Kansan, this topic seems like a big deal. To anyone who pays attention to the facts, Obama isn’t doing anything that previous administrations haven’t done. Where was Moran when Bush had 20-30 “czars” or Clinton or Bush 41 or Reagan? He was busy trying to bring up another non-issue to make it seem like something sinister was going on. Shame on Moran and shame on Kansas for continuing to elect nuts like this.
