Roeder auction idea appalling

roederA proposed November online auction to benefit the legal defense of Scott Roeder, accused of killing abortion doctor George Tiller, surely doesn’t square with eBay’s policy against allowing listings that promote or glorify violence or “instruct others to engage in illegal activity.” The distasteful items to be sold — including an Army of God manual, a recipe book by convicted Tiller shooter Shelley Shannon and drawings from Roeder — seem inseparable from the use of violence and illegal activity aimed at ending abortion. Unfortunately, even if eBay nixes the appalling auction, it probably could find another home on the wild Web. Roeder deserves a high-quality defense, but he does not deserve to be celebrated in cyberspace or otherwise.

How much for Troy Newman’s old inflatable sex dolls? Is there a discount for the “girl” dolls since they haven’t been used?

Don’t get me wrong. I think Scott Roeder has every right to a vigorous defense of his walking into a church and shooting an usher in the face. Any self-respecting jury will listen to the testimony, look at the evidence, and return a verdict only if the lunch pizza hasn’t been delivered yet.

In the good ol’ days, they’d take him out to the court house square and hang ‘im on the spot.

But what’s gonna happen this time, CONs?

    Will there be an appeal?

Will CONs buy Shelly Shannon’s cookbook to find the clinic-bombing recipe in the desserts section.

“Condoleezza Rice Krispy Treats, Pipe Bomb Contents, Killer Brownies…. “

So, “abortion foes” as the Eagle puts it, think that because Scott Roeder was anti-abortion that pro life folks will flock to buy stuff belonging to criminals to raise money for his defense? Don’t think so. In fact, it’s offensive. A lunatic fringe deal.

But the the publicity will help.

Pretty much what always happens in a capital murder case. You have a highly publicized murder, it is tried in the liberal justice system, there’ll be a conviction, then there’ll be the highly controvercial appeal process, the muderer will be sentenced to death, then political factions on both sides use the whole process for political gain for years while the convicted murderer dies of old age fat dumb and happy on death row.

All brought to you by the bleeding heart liberal justice system.

HLP, before you start blaming the “liberal justice system” you might research the case a little bit. I don’t think the Tiller murder is considered a capital murder case and therefore not subject to the death penalty. The decision of “what is a capital crime” is not a judicial decison but one from the legislature. The last I read, the Kansas Legislature is controlled pretty firmly by the republicans. Though we have a Democratic governor, he was a repub legislator who helped write the current death penalty statute back in the 90’s.

Do you emulate Roeder as one of your rightwing heroes?

    Good morning, Blaidd_Drwg69

You might quit worrying about my research and do a little of your own. Conservative doesn’t mean republican. In the Kansas legislature there are democrats, conservative republicans and liberal republicans.

Generally the only meaningful debate is between the liberal republicans and the conservative republicans. The liberal republicans then vote with the democrats and the conservatives are marginalized.

Roeder is a sick aberation. If conservatives had been in charge in Kansas the last 50 years we’d have hung him by now. Good luck with tieing his sickness to the conservative cause.

Is that all the libs have? I guess that’s all they’ve ever had.

    “liberal republicans”?

LOL, the repub party civil war continues!

I thuink those true (moderate) Republicans consider the members of their party far to the right as true radicals.

HLP, I am very aware of the dynamics of the Kansas Legislature. The repubs control it and the law THEY passed is what makes the Tiller murder NOT a capital crime.

He deserves a fair trial and only a defense that his personal means would be able to secure. No special fundraisers for anyone on a murder rap, especially a political assaination.
I do think eBay will have a tough time keeping a number of the items off their site however from a legal perspective.

There will be a market for such items, just as there has been a market for sketches and other misc. material from other convicted killers. Too bad. Some people are just sick.
It’s also too bad it’s not a capital crime. But, maybe 40 years of hard time is just as well.

I don’t think that is strange.
Roeder himself has shown (along with some other high profile local convicted murderers) you don’t have to be a brainiac to kill.

To clarify, from a cost efficiency stand point I am referencing the bottom line of the business.
Net income (that’s revenue minus expense for you liberal arts majors) in 2008:

    UPS +$3 billion
    Fed Ex -$1.1 billion
    USPS – $2.8 billion

While Fed Ex is bleeding, the USPS is even less efficient.

  36. Posted October 27, 2009 at 12:47 pm | Permalink

“couldn’t the drawings he makes in jail be used against him?”

Well, Scott can’t draw. I understand he had another prisoner draw some pictures and he signed them. And those drawings WOULD be very strong evidence against him IF he intended to plead innocent. I say this is further evidence that he intends to pursue a justifiable homicide defense.

Maybe ebay should go ahead and let the auction go on. WITH FBI oversight of course. It would be a good way to compile a list of potential domestic terrorist suspects.

Yeah, let the auction begin. Let the FBI keep tabs in their own inimitable way. Under no circumstances hang the poor b*stard until he’s spilled his guts regarding his accomplices. We keep telling you these people are loons. And they all believe that this is ok to kill doctors performing legal abortions. They COULD have held Roeder on death penalty because this is a politically motivated assassination. I am furious that they did not choose to do so.

Now, as for the people holding the auction. If the government would do their darn job, they could RICO every one of the members of this terrorist sponsored organization and his supporters. And they could seize every dime they make as well.

The larger problem, Mr. Kia, that I have seen is the volume of mail carried by the post office is decreasing, but the number of addresses they must serve is increasing. Fewer items per household with more households means more expense with declining revenue.

Every American deserves a lawyer. He11, libs even want 911 terrorists to have lawyers and trials.

Scott Roeder is no different. I’d much rather they auction off every material thing the accused owns, than use my tax dollars to fund his defense. That said, if no private funding is available, then all of our public tax dollars will go to his defense – and rightly so.

Sometimes I wonder about the liberals in Kansas. If you had the opportunity I think you would escort Scott Roeder from his cell and with a rope hang him from the nearest tree.

I say we either raise money for Roeder’s defense or money to buy Tiller’s old Baby Murder Shop and turn it into a Baby Murder Museum. We can have lots of big pics of dead babies, dieing dead babies, and my favorite a vacum sucking the brains out of a full term baby after a big hole has been jammed into the back of it’s head. I hope it has a clear hose so that we can see the brains moving through the tube. Maybe one of the other Baby Murderers would be willing to donate some real baby brains for the display. How exciting. Oh and the wax figures, just think of the possibilities. Come on all you abortion supporters, step up and show the world of Tiller the Baby Murderer. Good Job!
