There is much to be wary of in the energy bill that passed the House, but its national renewable energy standard, or RES, deserves the support of Kansas’ congressional delegation. That point got some welcome emphasis last week at the Kansas Wind and Renewable Energy Conference in Topeka, where Gov. Mark Parkinson encouraged attendees to lobby lawmakers accordingly. “Please do not assume that because your congressperson or senator comes before your group or your community and says they support wind power, that that means anything. If they’re not voting for an RES, they’re not supporting wind power. That’s the bottom line,” said Parkinson. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., supported an RES in a committee earlier this year, but a full Senate vote is pending. Kansas Republican Reps. Todd Tiahrt, Jerry Moran and Lynn Jenkins voted against the energy bill in June, and have expressed concerns about higher energy costs.

We really need to move on developing our wind resources.
Call ‘em. Tell their staffers we want it:
Sen. Pat Roberts’ offices: Wichita (316) 263-0416; Washington (202) 224-4774
Sen. Sam Brownback’s offices: Wichita (316) 264-8066; Washington (202) 224-6521
Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s office: Wichita: (316) 262-8992; Washington: (202) 225-6216
Rep. Jerry Moran’s offices: Salina: (785) 309-0572; Washington: (202) 225-2715
Rep Lynn Jenkin’s offices: Pittsburg: (620) 231-5966; Washington: (202) 225-6601
Kansas could become the Saudi Arabia of wind power.
We have an industrial infrastructure skilled in shaping lightweight materials to control air flow.
We have a nearly perpetual source of air flow.
We’re the “People of the South Wind,” f’r cryin’ out loud!
Just how much in campaign contributions does it take to buy Brownback, Roberts, Tiahrt, Moran, and Jenkins a clue?
A vote for RES is a vote for increased utility bills.
Brilliant Rhonda!
If wind is so great, it would be cheaper than coal powered electricity and it wouldn’t need subsidies.
RES is just plain stupid.
It costs to invest in our future! And with Republicans it seems to be about money — not what money can do — just about having it for themselves. Do they sit and count it for entertainment?

=======================================
Pony-up then.
How much are YOU investing in wind power today?
Or are you talkin about investing Other People’s Money?
“Put votes where mouths are on wind”
And put YOUR money where your mouth is on wind power.
If you are simply advocating spending Somebody Else’s money and not your own, then your hypocritical mouth should remain shut on this issue.
It is easy to spend other peoples money. If wind is such a positive where the people rushing to put their money where their mouth is?
Gov. Parkinson is a worth millions. But you do not see him putting his money where his mouth is.
Perhaps he put his money in the coal plant he supported? Doubt it.
Gov. Parkinson the time has come for you to put up or shut up. Where is your money in wind?
As I just mentioned on another thread, sometimes we must help people to make intelligent decisions. The Republicans are frequently short sighted and narrow minded. They need HELP to welcome and embrace new ideas like alternative energy. Using THEIR money gives them a reason to become interested and learn more!
We DO need to help these conservatives and save them from themselves and their disastrous policies, don’t we…
