Trick or treat. Giving candy should be discontinued. Only dentists could love this tradition. Better to give apples and oranges. Anybody have a better idea?

Hospitalized Children Without Insurance Are More Likely to Die, a Study Finds
Uninsured children who wind up in the hospital are much more likely to die than children covered by either private or government insurance plans, according to one of the first studies to assess the impact of insurance coverage on hospitalized children.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center analyzed data from more than 23 million children’s hospitalizations in 37 states from 1988 to 2005. Compared with insured children, uninsured children faced a 60 percent increased risk of dying, the researchers found.
The authors estimated that at least 1,000 hospitalized children died each year simply because they lacked insurance, accounting for 16,787 of some 38,649 children’s deaths nationwide during the period analyzed.

We considered celebrating Halloween acting clueless and dressed looking like Obama administration and DimLib congressional characters.
We get over 100 kids usually showing up on our doorstep and anticipate the usual tonight.
Instead of the multiple pieces of candy we always give them we thought of just dropping a white rock form the flowerbeds in their sake. I mean it looks like candy but of course is unpalatable and could actually hurt them, but that’s what the Dims are offering most of the time.
Of course we won’t….we actually care about them unlike the Dims.

Obama Requests More Options for Troop Levels
The Washington post reported two officials as saying late Friday Obama asked the Pentagon’s top generals to provide him with more options for troop levels in Afghanistan.
U.S. officials have previously told the Associated Press Obama is considering sending a large number of additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan next year but fewer than Gen. Stanley McChrystal prefers. The president appears willing to send at least 10,000 to 15,000 troops of the 40,000 forces requested by McChrystal.
The Post reported Obama is seeking a strategy that would satisfy both his military and civilian advisers.

Hey Charles: My parents didn’t allow us first kids to trick or treat in the nearby farm to market community where we were raised. It wasn’t political … my parents were FDR Democrats. It wasn’t religious, they came from separate Catholic and protestant backgrounds.
I believe it was the culture of their growing up in the Great Depression and dust bowl days of Kansas. That was probably more powerful than politics or religion.

Any analysis from the CBO is going to contain the language of uncertainty, which is appropriate when trying to predict the future with so many uncertain variables.
Monkeyhawk’s point still stands. The faux fiscal conservatives were all over the CBO analysis that predicted increases in the deficit (an analysis that contained, once again, the language of uncertainty). Now that new analyses are coming out that predict deficit reduction, the coalition conservatives who are just interested in opposing “liberals” and preserving their contention that any sort of what they see as social spending or “liberal” government regulation is ALWAYS inherently bad suddenly either abandon referencing the CBO, or do what you tried to do, and label the language of uncertainty as indications that one should “lack faith in the CBO opinion.”
Warning to anyone: If a group of people demand higher standards of evidence for their opposition than they do for themselves, here stand unexamined assumptions. Or, put another way, here be bullsh*t.

CBO Report came out yesterday Monkeyhawk. You and Agnatha should really give us a little time before calling us hypocrites.
Some of us actually read the legislation and the reports instead of regurgitating sound bytes from the liberal press. Posting one liners from the CBO Reports often lacks the context of the entire documents.
Regardless, both recent reports (29th) and (30th) can only assume that not one piece of the proposal(s) it examined DO NOT CHANGE in the final version.
It is highly unlikely that the bill(s) will survive in contact. There are many contentious portions which are having trouble already on both sides.
And before anyone celebrates….

Yes, any analysis from the CBO is drastically limited by the information that they have at the time, and also must assume no major changes in the legislation that they are evaluating. That is always the case with CBO analyses.

And now that the CBO report shows something different than they want it to show, their tactic is to say “It is highly unlikely that the bill(s) will survive as written.”
Maybe they did learn something from the lessons we offered!

Nice try, but I stand by what I said. Jim Johnson has been an old fashioned faux fiscal conservative who has snarked against free spending Democrats on one hand (see quoted post), but then tries to attack them for Medicare cuts on the other hand (see quoted post), in this very thread.
The contradiction holds. Obama is either giving away taxpayer money, but when he is actually doing something that may cut into the deficit, he is cutting Medicare!!!!!!
As for the factual nature of the Spam Troll’s accusation (500 billion in cuts to Medicare!!!!)…it’s bullsh*t (that’s been dealt with before, by the way).

Elitism is the tool of the progressive Lib.
Whether some Libs recognize it or not, they are implementing a sanctimonious assignment on others by injecting an artificial superiority that stands only on elitist attitude – with not much else to back it up.
For assignment of Republicans or CONS as most say, it’s that all CONS are racist, stupid and unable to think for themselves.
Formal groups – like rank or position are want most people are familiar with in interactions life.
Informal groups – the cliques, the secret pals and the clandestine relationships in an office, school, organization and yes, even a blog is what rules the tight circle of inclusiveness.
For example, the informal group on a larger scale is one of political identity.
People will use this type of group to control, bludgeon and generally use any method or excuse to exclude or generally keep away outsiders from readching their objectives.
Sometimes the objectives are subtle – mutual admiration societies.
Sometimes, one gets lucky if they don’t speak the ‘Speak’ of the informal group. They get thrown a bone and treated in the ‘pet’ category – that is, ain’t he cute – but you’re not allowed on the couch of superiority.
College Fraternal societies that I’ve attended are about the snootiest adventures I’ve ever attended. The same people who made low ‘B’s’ or ‘C’s’ in the same classes where you broke the curve with “A++’ will treat you like a ‘pet’ or some sort of ‘untouchable’ in their own caste system.
It’s quite amusing really and sad that some people think an artificial status in an informal group gives them position.
English, French, Italians and Germans have a specialized type of informal group assignment. Just by being a national, they tend to treat auslanders (foreigners) as some sort of diseased lower life form.
I remember attending a function where Secretary Schlesinger was the primary guest. I felt like a rodent in the wine cellar. But in that case, it was a formal group, lots of high levels and brass. I expected to stand in the corner as the ‘rank’ was pre-assigned.
You can spot the informal groups just about everywhere you go. Nothing you can do about it, just recognize it.
An identity of a true independent is where they don’t really feel left out because they are independent. They know regardless of the environment they are going to be a survivor.
Anyway, that’s my personal philosophical view about life and the Formal and Informal groups.

Since MOST Fraternities include GPA as a member requirement, I mostly disagree with your “Grade” comment… Most require a 3.0 GPA or above for membership… And membership doesnt come cheap…

Actually, I believe it is my bad on this whole thing: I was asked to be an editor at the other blog, and I was also asked not to bring XXX over. I assumed he was banned because of that. Apparently, that wasn’t the case. To be perfectly honest about the whole thing: in retrospect, I should have talked the whole thing over with XXX a long time ago. I didn’t. And this is what happens when stupid people, like myself, fail to communicate.
I sincerely apologize to anyone caught up in this mess, as it seems to be my doing, and for that, there is little excuse.
I will tell you this: The other blog does have some great people there, and not all we blogged about was about this place or the people here. We had some great discussions about a wide variety of subjects, not all political, and our sole purpose was to do so without the vitriol associated here, so don’t put down the other place as some “exclusive” club. It’s not. I’m sure anyone here could post there as long as they did so without the chip so visible here.
As for me, I’m done at both places. Life’s to short for me to screw things up anymore than I already have.

I see no purpose in communicating with BJ. I have raised my children to be successful contributing members society. I have completed one career and recieve a retirement check while I am working on my next. My wife has a professional career which allows her to max out her 401K and max her 50+ Roth (at least for one more year). I belong to local civic groups where I am active and I serve on one city board at this time. I attend the local chamber meetings and when asked a city council meeting or two.
I really have no need to meet or correspond with a beggar who lives at the dregs of life. He hates his city, his state, and his country. He has said negative things about his own flesh and blood, his only child. He admits to hiding women from his son, and receiving welfare. He has also declared war on Americans who do not hold the same political beliefs as himself. He is an outcast in life by his own decisions.

Spc. Robert K. Charlton, 22, of Malden, Mo., died Oct. 27 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident Oct. 23 in Wardak, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
The circumstances surrounding the non-combat related incident are under investigation.

I think what we witnessed here today on the weblog was the direct result of the headchaplain exposing the other blog the other night.
I’m guessing that XXX wasn’t told about the new blog. It was “invitation only”.
So when he saw the commotion the other night, he went to TBTSNBN and either tried to post, or contacted his long time friend JMWalker about posting. Walker shot him down. (for whatever reason)
XXX got his feelings hurt by this.
Everything since that appears to me to be like a bunch of crying over spilt milk by lib friends. And they already have those big bleeding hearts ya know?
So, anyway, I thought I’d encourage XXX to make amends and thereby get back into the flock so to speak.
Out of no where guess who shows up for the first time in MONTHS? KansasFarmGirl.
I suppose she was summoned, or someone turned on the batlight and called her to their rescue (I can’t imagine she was secretly reading TBTSNBN’d!)

Everyone on my block except me goes absolutely apesiht with holiday decorations. My next door neighbor has a giant inflatable black cat. For Thanksgiving he’ll have a giant inflatable turkey. For Christmas he’ll haul out the giant inflatable Santa Claus. I mentioned last January I was expecting a giant inflatable Martin Luther King. He didn’t think it was funny.
Anyway, all the other neighbors decorate, too. I put a ceramic pumpkin with a candle on the porch and give out candy bars. Around the first of December I hang a pine-cone wreath on the door; it were made by my Aunt before she died I’d hang it on the door for Halloweeen.

Perhaps Clark brings a bottle of hootch along for his new found friend FreeBird. FreeBird has been getting meaner laterly – you know – like a guilty drunk who has broken – sip sip.

Of those “50 million,” that lack insurance there were 45,000 who died without health care. With health care, 98,000 died FROM health care because of malpractice.
The question is do we want to trust that largest corporation in the world, the U.S. Government.
Do not expect house calls anytime soon.
