The largest stimulus program in the nation’s history has created or saved at least 650,000 state and local jobs, according to a report released by the Obama administration on Friday.

Based on approximately $150 billion in spending from the $787 billion recovery package, the tally is the first broad, concrete look at the stimulus program’s impact on the economy. The numbers are drawn from tens of thousands of reports from state and local recipients as well as private companies.

The White House said the actual number of jobs created so far is likely closer to 1 million, since its report on stimulus job creation only focused on $150 billion of the $339 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds spent so far.

Exaggerated and inaccurate claims about the threat from global warming risk undermining efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions and contain climate change, senior scientists have told The Times.

Environmental lobbyists, politicians, researchers and journalists who distort climate science to support an agenda erode public understanding and play into the hands of sceptics, according to experts including a former government chief scientist.

    Stimulus jobs overstated by thousands

WASHINGTON (AP) – An early progress report on President Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.

Someone help with the math here. IF (big if) the spending and job creation figures as estimated are accurate, that is 650,000 jobs for $150 billion dollars. My calculator doesn’t go that high but isn’t that about $230,000 per job? That’s good?

Do you really think Americans cannot put together statistics that accurately reflect effect of the American Recovery Act spending?

A great new interactive map at Recovery.gov lets you look at exactly where and how much money has gone to projects in your own area.

    Go to http://www.recovery.gov/transparency/pages/home.aspx
punch in your ZIP Code, chose “Agency Reported” in the lower left menu.

You will now have a zoomable, movable Google-Map-Like interface where you can click on individual projects and get details on the loans and grants.

Lest we forget . . . words of wisdom by George Carlin:

You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own, and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying . . . lobbying, to get what they want . . . Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want . . . they don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that . . . that doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting f***ed by a system that threw them overboard 30 f***in’ years ago. They don’t want that.

You know what they want? They want obedient workers . . . Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly s****ier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your f***in’ retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it . . . they’ll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this f***in’ place.

It’s a big club and you ain’t in it. You and I are not in The big club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy.

The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Good honest hard-working people . . . white collar, blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means . . . continue to elect these rich c*******ers who don’t give a f*** about you. They don’t give a f*** about you . . . they don’t give a f*** about you. They don’t care about you at all . . . at all . . . at all, and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care.

That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue d*** that’s being jammed up their a**es everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth. It’s called the American Dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it . . . ”

    — George Carlin

    Duh? Obama likes open borders.

A new study by the conservative think tank Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals the connection between enforcing immigration laws and national security – sometimes in chilling detail.
Shortly after midnight on September 9, 2001, Maryland state trooper Joseph Catalano pulled over a red Mitsubishi rental car traveling 90 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-95 north of Baltimore. The driver, Ziad Jarrah, had a Florida driver’s license and quietly accepted the $270 fine issued by Catalano before continuing on to join his friends at a hotel in New Jersey. Two days later, Jarrah boarded United Airlines flight 93, which he would later pilot into a field near Shanksville, Pa., killing everyone aboard.
In 2001, Trooper Catalano had no way of knowing that Jarrah was an illegal alien who had overstayed his business visitor visa. But in the years since 9/11, dozens of state and local law enforcement agencies have been able to join ranks with federal immigration authorities under the auspices of the 287(g) program to help identify and remove foreign nationals who commit crimes or otherwise pose a threat to our well-being. These state and local agencies are making a significant contribution to public safety and homeland security, not just in their jurisdictions, but for us all.
Yet the Obama administration, in a move consistent with other recent steps to scale back immigration law enforcement, recently announced its intent to impose new rules for the 287(g) program that unduly constrain the local partners and could allow too many alien scofflaws identified by local agencies to remain here.

More dishonest criminal members of congress to be swept under the carpet by demcorats:

    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Friday, October 30, 2009

Nearly half the members of a powerful House subcommittee in control of Pentagon spending are under scrutiny by ethics investigators in Congress, who have trained their lens on the relationships between seven panel members and an influential lobbying firm founded by a former Capitol Hill aide.

The investigations by two separate ethics offices include an examination of the chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on defense, John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), as well as others who helped steer federal funds to clients of the PMA Group. The lawmakers received campaign contributions from the firm and its clients. A document obtained by The Washington Post shows that the subcommittee members under scrutiny also include Peter J. Visclosky (D-Ind.), James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) , C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.) and Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.).

You really are an uninformed CON aren’t you?

Here’s how Bush turned about half a million into 15 million while he was a serving GOVERNOR OF TEXAS:

(from Wiki) In April 1989, the Rangers’ owner, oil tycoon Eddie Chiles, sold the team to an investment group that included the future President of the United States George W. Bush. Bush would serve as the Rangers’ managing general partner until he was elected Governor of Texas in 1994. Chiles was a friend of the Bush family. After hearing Chiles planned to sell the team, Bush headed a group of investors that bought the team for $89 million. He secured his share of the Rangers, less than 1-percent equity, by borrowing $500,000. In late 1991 Bush increased his investment to $606,302.

During his tenure, the Rangers and the City of Arlington decided to replace the aging Arlington Stadium with a new publicly funded stadium, at a cost of $193 million, financed by Arlington residents, through a sales tax increase. Ground was broken on October 30, 1991 on what would become The Ballpark in Arlington (now named Rangers Ballpark in Arlington). The city, through the Arlington Sports Facilities Development Authority, also controversially authorized the seizure of 13 acres of land through eminent domain for the Rangers future development. Landowners filed lawsuits over the acquisition and eventually won settlements of $22.2 million which the Rangers declined to pay.

In 1998, Tom Hicks bought the team for $250 million and agreed to pay the settlement in relation to the 1991 eminent domain litigation. Bush received nearly $15 million from the sale, mostly due to a generous 10-percent bonus of the purchase price.

    ******

A sitting Governor ram-rods a tax levy to fund a stadium that will benefit him personally including tacitly okaying government seizure of private property so he can get back 30 times his investment.

    Yeah, nothing to see here.

More trouble from, sorry, for, the President:

President Obama and members of Congress told federal agencies earlier this year to avoid awarding funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to contractors with troubled histories of work for the federal government.

But that isn’t happening at numerous agencies, a Washington Post analysis shows. So far, 33 federal departments and agencies have awarded more than $1.2 billion in stimulus contracts to at least 30 companies that are ranked by one watchdog group as among the most egregious offenders of state and federal laws.

Government records show that as a group, these contractors have sold defective products, manufactured safety tests, submitted false travel claims and padded contracts with fraudulent fees.

“Even a simple Google search could raise red flags about some contractors’ performance,” said Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.).

My mistake, you’re right. I guess I can’t go on blaming Bush Clinton Obama and Associates for everything.

But hey, they all start somewhere…

    Regular,

Is there still a car parked on the front lawn at your sister’s house?

    ******

I can tell you that there is, cosmo.

But don’t worry about it causing any pollution . . . it never goes anywhere.

“As an American I am not so shocked that Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize without any accomplishments to his name, but that America gave him the White House based on the same credentials.” – - Newt Gingrich

    BTW political mama,

No canoe/kayak trip this year, I hope for better weather and financial opportunity next year (only managed to secure one kayak so far). It’s still on my to do list, other things are just at the top of the list.

Am_Way ignores the obvious point that this is happening now instead of 5 years ago because a decent man is running the government instead of WorstPresidentEver and his crew.

Obama has made it clear that unethical behavior must be rooted out even if it implicates Dems.

Yeah, Newt got right to crux of the matter of his pushing his desire for a divorce from his first wife while she lay in the hospital bed battling cancer.

Wow – what a guy. Newt is truly a ‘family values’ and stand-up guy.

And now is on his 3rd or 4th wife? Of course, he coverted to Catholicism so I guess the Pope must have gotten his 30 pieces of silver for that hat trick of Newtie’s.

    LOL!

The stupid cons, like boxlock20, are still having hissy fits over President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. . . and being elected President almost a year ago.

Uhm. Pretty slow on the uptake there, “Boxlock20.”

Let’s get basic: each branch of the federal government (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) all have their own ways of going after (or ignoring) corruption within their own branch.

However, the FBI, the IRS, and other agencies may become invovled in shedding light on or helping in covering up various problems in each branch.

The president has no authority to clean house in one of the other branches.
