    In another sign of economic recovery, U.S. companies are planning to hire and invest more in the near future, according to a survey released Monday.

    The National Association for Business Economics said the number of employers planning to hire workers over the next six months exceeded the number expecting job cuts for the first time since the recession began in December 2007.

    Supporters are planning an online auction to raise money for a Kansas City man charged with killing Wichita, Kan., abortion doctor George Tiller.

    An Army of God manual will be among the unusual array of anti-abortion items to be offered for sale on eBay and other Web sites. The underground publication for anti-abortion militants describes dozens of ways to shut down clinics, including bombing.

    Also for sale will be a prison cookbook compiled by Shelley Shannon, the Oregon woman who shot and wounded Tiller in 1993 and was later convicted in a series of abortion clinic arsons and bombings.

    Scott Roeder, who is charged with first-degree murder in Tiller’s May 31 killing, told The Kansas City Star in a phone interview that he was excited about the auction.

    “I think it’s great,” said Roeder who is scheduled to go on trial in January. “I appreciate all of the efforts going into that. I’m all for anything that might bring some donations in.”

    14 Americans Killed in Afghan Chopper Crashes
    Monday, October 26, 2009

    KABUL — A helicopter crash and separate collision involving two other choppers killed 14 Americans on Monday in one of the deadliest days for U.S. troops in the war in Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.

    In the first crash, a helicopter went down in the west of the country after leaving the scene of a firefight with insurgents, killing 10 Americans — seven troops and three civilians working for the government. Eleven American troops, one U.S. civilian and 14 Afghans were also injured.

    In a separate incident in the south, two other U.S. choppers collided while in flight, killing four American troops and wounding two more, the military said.

    In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making “immoral” and “obscene” returns while “the bodies pile up.”

    Ledgers tell a different reality. Health insurance profit margins typically run about 6 percent, give or take a point or two. That’s anemic compared with other forms of insurance and a broad array of industries, even some beleaguered ones.

    First Daughters Not Vaccinated Against H1N1

    President Obama’s school age daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk.

    The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. The CDC also says a regular seasonal flu shot does not protect against the virus

    I don’t have a part to play in this golf/brush argument as I hate Bush as much as Obama. I think they’re both cretinous pieces of schitt and both deserve to be impeached, tried and convicted of treason.

    But when the bassturd that announces with much fanfare, a “national emergency” and he hasn’t the guts (or he has the foreknowledge not) to take the vaccine or to make his children. But instead, insists that the rest of us do…we have some problems.

    Abortion opponents looking to help Scott Roeder, the Kansas City man charged with killing abortion doctor George Tiller, have organized an unusual auction: They plan to sell a trove of anti-abortion memorabilia on eBay.

    According to an article in the Kansas City Star, the auction will include a host of items, including an Army of God manual, a “prison cookbook” assembled by a woman serving time for abortion-clinic bombings and arsons, and an bullhorn autographed by a Kansas City anti-abortion activist.

    Roeder, charged with first-degree murder in the May 31 shooting of Tiller, is scheduled to go to trial in January.

    “This is unique,” said Regina Dinwiddie, the activist who will sign the bullhorn. “The goal is that everybody makes money for Scott Roeder’s defense.”

    One abortion-rights leader told the Star the auction was deplorable and that it could lead to more violence.

    “The network of extremists promoting and defending the murder of doctors is contributing to escalating threats against clinics and doctors across the country,” said Kathy Spillar, executive vice president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.

    Despite, the opposition, those spearheading the auction are working hard to get it off the ground. Dave Leach, an Iowa abortion opponent who is organizing the auction effort, said he was aiming for a Nov. 1 launch.

    Among items that will go on the auction block, Dinwiddie said, are three drawings she received in the mail Wednesday from Roeder. Two drawings were done by another inmate at his direction, but Roeder autographed all of them.

    One is a sketch of David and Goliath. “It has David with a slingshot in one hand and the head of Goliath in his other hand and the name ‘Tiller’ on Goliath’s forehead,” she said. “On the corpse on the ground, it says ‘child-murdering industry.’”

    According to the story, Leach and others would like to help Roeder hire a lawyer to present what is known as a necessity defense. That strategy would argue that Tiller was killed to prevent a greater harm. Other anti-abortion activists charged with violent crimes have tried to use such a defense but with little success.

    Scott got another prisoner to make him a picture and he signed it?

    Sometimes we need to just step back and remember that politicians, yes, even Republican politicians, are just like the rest of us; people who love their children and whose first concern is for their health:

    That in itself isn’t terribly newsworthy — the Texas Republican was there to get his daughter vaccinated, a spokeswoman told HOH.

    Isn’t that sweet? Taking time out of his busy day because of concern for his daughter’s health? It warms the cockles of the heart, doesn’t it?

    Except for one tiny detail:

    There is a certain degree of risk to factor in to any investment.

    Putting money into an insurance company, which faces rising costs of health care, litigation, and political controls – not a wise move for a small rate of return like 6%.

    This is good. Reid grew a pair, and the bill he’s sending to the cbo for scoring includes a public option! When it comes back showing it saves more money than the last proposal, cons are going to have a hard time justifying voting no. The only weakness is it includes an opt out provision, so Ks. won’t reap any of the savings (in fact will probably be a profit center for some companies to try and maintain their profit margins) but the ks. cons will be held accountable when our rates rise while the rest of the country goes down.

    The gist is: state lines are a 19th Century phenomenon and should be re-drawn. East of the Mississipi, state lines were marked by rivers that couldn’t be bridged, mountains that defied passage or out West, the advance of a surveyor’s scope across bare unsettled desert.

    Today, media crosses state lines and northern California is so different than southern California, no wonder they’re a mess.

    Houston, Texas has much more in common economically with New Orleans than it has with Amarillo. OKC is more in tuned demographically and financially with Wichita than Doo-Dah has with Overland Park. Mission Hills and south Ward Parkway have more in common than, say, Olathe and Hoxie.

    States’ Rights would have more relevance if they meant something in the 21st Century. New England should be a state without artificial state differences caused by Massachusetts and New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

    When I lived in Kansas City my daily commute took me through no fewer than 12 separate and distinct governments… counties, cities, states…. god knows how many school districts, townships, library boards, etc.

    It ain’t gonna happen, of course. But what really is the difference between Tennessee and Kentucky? What, really, is the difference between Alabama and Mississippi? Can you tell me the significant differences between the Dakotas and the Carolinas?

    States’ Rights might mean something if states meant something.

    THE NUMBERS:

    other health sectors did much better — drugs and medical products and
    services were both in the top 10.

    The railroads brought in a 12.6 percent profit margin. Leading the list:
    network and other communications equipment, at 20.4 percent.

    HealthSpring, the best performer in the health insurance industry,
    posted 5.4 percent. That’s a less profitable margin than was achieved by
    the makers of Tupperware, Clorox bleach and Molson and Coors beers.

    The star among the health insurance companies did, however, nose out
    Jack in the Box restaurants, which only achieved a 4 percent margin.

    UnitedHealth Group, reporting third quarter results last week, saw
    fortunes improve. It managed a 5 percent profit margin on an 8 percent
    growth in revenue.

    But were the Bush years golden ones for health insurers?

    Not judging by profit margins, profit growth or returns to shareholders.
    The industry’s overall profits grew only 8.8 percent from 2003 to 2008,
    and its margins year to year, from 2005 forward, never cracked 8
    percent.

    The latest annual profit margins of a selection of products, services
    and industries: Tupperware Brands, 7.5 percent; Yahoo, 5.9 percent;
    Hershey, 6.1 percent; Clorox, 8.7 percent; Molson Coors Brewing, 8.1
    percent; construction and farm machinery, 5 percent; Yum Brands (think
    KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell), 8.5 percent.”

    Let’s face it, anybody that spends very much time here has very little else going on better in their life, and that’s a little sad.
    It’s not like this blog is nationally read by thousands, and influential politically, spiritually or in any other way.
    It’s the same group with a few additions, and a few subtractions from time to time.
    It’s like the blog editors are simply day school monitors for a few unfulfilled life unfortunates.
    I include myself in that ‘Breakfast Club’ group by the way…but at least I am realizing it and getting away more.

    You might want to check out some denominational official books…. Such as one that isnt mine, but it might explain something to you…. The United Methodist Book of Discipline clearly states that for Holy Communion, only the “pure unfermented juice of the grape” shall be used…

    That same phrase is used in other official denominational procedural books…. Why dont you look it up, BEFORE you make a fool out of yourself…

    Chas was using a command from the Bible which allegedly directs believers to Exorcise demons, as an excuse for Chas’ use of profane language on the blog. (As if Jesus ever cast out a demon by saying STFU!)

    Then Chas claimed his very own quote (Get behind me Satan) was used by Jesus to Rebuke demons, not to Exorcise them.

    So why was Chas using his quote (Get behind me Satan) to Exorcise a demon, instead of Rebuking a demon on the blog? Chas is mentally unstable. He’s lost his marbles.

    Chas felt very threatened by the Word of God and the verses posted which warn about phony preachers. It appears that Chas was actually asking for Satan’s help, asking for Satan to stand behind him.
