    Hey, BlueJay,
    Notice this article?
    http://www.kansas.com/news/featured/story/1008868.html

I used to look down on the ROTC training programs in our public schools until I met one of my son’s friends who leads the program in their school. He takes pride in helping the kids who are in the program. Many kids with behavior problems, kicked out of other schools, have to join up. This leader has been the class president the last 4 years of school and makes straight A’s.

When I ask my son why he can’t be more like this kid, he tells me:

“He has to do good, he’s an illegal.”

I wonder if I sent my kid to school in Mexico…?

It’s Official: Austin Smashes 155-Year Summer Heat Record

As 100°+ heat persisted through August, it became apparent that south-central Texas was approaching an all-time summer heat record. That trend was confirmed last night when the June-August meteorological summer closed out with a record-smashing average of 88.4° at Austin Mabry, 1.7° above the previous high in one of the longest official records in the U.S. dating back to 1854. The 3 highest average summer temperatures have now been recorded at Austin since 1998. This was also the warmest June-August ever at San Antonio and Del Rio. It was the hottest August on record at Corpus Christi.

    And..
Australia has just experienced an exceptionally warm August. Almost the entire country experienced above-average temperatures during the month, but the warmth was most extraordinary in the subtropics. Over most of the southern Northern Territory and the southern half of Queensland (away from the coast), maximum temperatures for August were more than 5°C above the long-term average. Maximum temperatures were the highest on record for August over 49% of Australia.
    and..
In January 2009 Tasmania recorded highest ever temperatures around 41C. Yet horticulturalists complained of an unusually cool summer with frosts that led to failures of crops like tomatoes, pumpkin and corn. Winter (June, July, August) saw record rainfall at some weather stations.

“But Feinstein, D-Calif., whose post gives her access to sensitive information about the war’s progress, said Sunday that delaying the reinforcements also puts the forces already in Afghanistan at greater risk. She pointed to an Oct. 3 battle in northeastern Afghanistan in which eight U.S. soldiers were killed during an enemy attack on their remote outpost.

    Interesting read.
And if there is this much disagreement, increasingly more at that, why in the world would we start passing ‘cap and tax’ laws that harm the economy and increase costs.

“This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.

So what on Earth is going on?

Climate change sceptics, who passionately and consistently argue that man’s influence on our climate is overstated, say they saw it coming.”

    SO TRUE

Random Thoughts On The Difference Between Us And Them

If a conservative doesnt like guns, they dont buy one. If a liberal doesnt like guns, then no one should have one.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, they dont eat meat. If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, they quietly enjoy their life. If a liberal is homosexual, they loudly demand legislated respect.

If a black man or Hispanic is conservative, they see themselves as independently successful. Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesnt like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they dont like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesnt go to church. A liberal wants any mention of God or religion silenced.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that his neighbors pay for his.

    “DavidB” notes –

“Mob guys have known that for years…”

Here’s a fun read from the library or Amazon’s used-book service:

Jimmy Breslin’s “The Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight.”

It was made into a so-so movie and a lot of later films have portrayed the inner-absurdities of being a Mafioso. But one of the funniest scenes is how the Mafia hit-man sits on the floor and covers his ears after he forces his wife to go out and start his car for him.

The car never exploded, of course. Which ticked off his wife who had to go out in the middle of winter to start his car… because he was held in such low-regard he’d never be worth a car-bomb.

There’s a metaphor here, it seems, with some of the CONS who contribute to WE Blog. They (figuratively, of course) sit down on the kitchen floor and hold their hands over their ears expecting the explosion on the drive-way. Kid’s might learn evolution. Gays might marry. Iran might get the bomb. “Mezkins” might get sick. A 12-year-old might get pregnant….

“As the world focused on President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, a small group of determined scientists gathered in a Senate office building to present evidence backing their claim that climate change is caused not by man but by nature, and that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant but the hope for a greener planet.”

The scientists said they were on Capitol Hill to challenge the president’s claims and show that Mother Nature controls climate around the world and that CO2 in the atmosphere benefits people, plants and animals.

“Nature, not human activity rules the planet,” said Fred Singer, an atmospheric and space physicist and research professor at George Mason University and professor emeritus of environmental science at the University of Virginia. “And once you’ve decided that on the basis of evidence, then everything else falls into place”

Bbbbbbb-but that would mean there is no logical reason I mean excuse to create a new revenue source for the bloated government to spend?

Am I saying the Left is entirely responsible for our current situation? NO. But the extremists in power are knowingly taking steps to make your life harder. Why? American exceptionalism. They hate it.

The current liberal ascendancy in the United States–controlling the executive and both houses of Congress, dominating the media and elite culture–has set us on a course for decline. And this is true for both foreign and domestic policies. Indeed, they work synergistically to ensure that outcome.”

Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world
Engineers have performed their magic once again. The world is not going to run short of energy as soon as feared.

“The common wisdom was that unconventional gas was too difficult, too expensive and too demanding,” he said, according to Petroleum Economist. “This has changed. If we ever doubted that gas was the fuel of the future – in many ways there’s the answer.”

The breakthrough has been to combine 3-D seismic imaging with new technologies to free “tight gas” by smashing rocks, known as hydro-fracturing or “fracking” in the trade.

The US is leading the charge. Operations in Pennsylvania and Texas have already been sufficient to cut US imports of liquefied natural gas (LGN) from Trinidad and Qatar to almost nil, with knock-on effects for the global gas market – and crude oil. It is one reason why spot prices for some LNG deliveries have dropped to 50pc of pipeline contracts.

Global climate disruption is identified as a security threat to the US.
    —–
“During the season, warmer-than-average temperatures engulfed much of the planet’s surface,” the center wrote in an online report. One exception to the warmth was the north-central USA and central Canada, which had an unusually cool summer due to a persistent trough of low pressure that kept the area cloudy and cool.
    —–
California this year experienced its warmest temperatures for the month of September in 25 years, as above-average temperatures were registered in the West and across the entire nation for the month, federal weather officials said Friday.

The average California temperature for September was 73.3 degrees, matching the level of warmth experienced in September 1984, said officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. LATIMES
    ——
Summer temperatures for the globe’s ocean surface ranked as the warmest on record, according to a report released Wednesday by the National Climatic Data Center.
Overall, when the Earth’s land areas and oceans are included together, the three-month June-August period measured as the third-warmest summer on record. Global climate records go back to 1880.
    ——-
What really jumped out at Arndt, he says, was the heat in the Southern Hemisphere. “The warmth in Australia and South America in August was striking,” he says. “Land areas in the Southern Hemisphere in August broke their previous record by a large amount.”

Overall, it was the second-warmest winter on record in the Southern Hemisphere. (June-August is winter in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Additionally, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, Arctic sea ice covered an average of 2.42 million square miles during August. This is 18.4% below the 1979-2000 average extent and is consistent with a decline of August sea ice extent since 1979. http://www.usatoday.com/weather/climate/2009-09-16-global-summer-temperatures_N.htm

“Bigger Savings Seen from Limiting Medical Lawsuits
    Friday, October 09, 2009
    By Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar, Associated Press

Washington (AP) – Limits on medical malpractice lawsuits would lead doctors to order up fewer unneeded tests and save taxpayers billions more than previously thought, budget umpires for Congress said Friday in a reversal that puts the issue back in the middle of the health care debate.

The latest analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that government health care programs could save $41 billion over ten years if nationwide limits on jury awards for pain and suffering and other similar curbs were enacted. Those savings are nearly ten times greater than CBO estimated just last year.”

Famed investor Jim Rogers is “quite sure gold will go over $2000 per ounce during this bull market.”
Rogers’ confidence gold will continue to rally stems from a view the U.S. dollar is on its way to losing status as the world’s reserve currency.

“Is it going to happen? Yes,” Rogers says. “I don’t like saying it [and] I’m extremely worried about it but we have to deal with the facts. America is not getting better [and] the dollar is going to be replaced just like pound sterling [was].”

In order for the film to be shown, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that

1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument.

2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination.

“MOSCOW – A top Russian general aimed tough remarks at the U.S. on Monday before Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s visit, reconfirming plans for multiple-warhead missiles and warning Washington that refitting rockets with conventional warheads would raise the risk of nuclear war.

Lt. Gen. Andrei Shvaichenko’s comments quoted by Russian news agencies come as Russia and the United States seek to negotiate a replacement for a 1991 arms control treaty that expires at the end of the year. It is a major element in their efforts to mend relations that were badly strained during the Bush administration.

Clinton is to meet Tuesday with President Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Her visit will test Russia’s willingness to cooperate on issues, including arms control and Iran’s nuclear program, in the wake of President Barack Obama’s recent decision to scrap a missile-defense plan that Moscow vehemently opposed.

Shvaichenko’s words appeared designed to remind the U.S. of Russia’s nuclear might and press it to heed Moscow’s concerns.

Shvaichenko, commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, reiterated that Russia will begin deploying RS-24 missiles with multiple warheads in December, the same month that the START I treaty expires.

The U.S. has said the missiles would violate a treaty provision against adding multiple warheads to existing single-warhead missiles, but Russia asserts it is a new missile.

“Putting RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missiles in service will strengthen (Russia’s) combat capabilities,” ITAR-Tass quoted Shvaichenko as saying at the force’s headquarters outside Moscow. He said the first deployment of the missiles would be in the Ivanovo province, northeast of the capital.

Reaching a deal to replace the treaty before it expires would be a strong sign of solidarity after years of acrimony.

But there are no guarantees. Pressing Russia’s position on another prickly issue, Shvaichenko criticized plans aired during the Bush administration to fit some U.S. strategic missiles with conventional non-nuclear warheads, saying the launch of such missiles could provoke a mistaken nuclear strike in retaliation.

A state that detected such a missile heading in its direction “would determine the risk it faced according to a worst-case scenario,” RIA Novosti quoted Shvaichenko as saying – meaning that it would likely respond with nuclear weapons. He said such a shift “would seriously undermine … international security as a whole.”"

It will be interesting to see President Obama’s take on this.

Arctic Sea Ice Not Following Consensus

From the NSIDC, Sea ice reaches it’s annual minimum extent growing by 370,000 square miles over 2007. An area 1 1/2 times the size of Texas. The recovery is 220,000 sq miles above last year alone yet the NSIDC claims below that the scientists don’t consider this a recovery…

All I can say is, be glad you’re not an expert on sea ice. The linear trend is actually closer than the majority of the experts.

    Gore climate film’s nine ‘errors’

Al Gore’s film was sent to schools in England, Wales and Scotland
A High Court judge who ruled on whether climate change film, An Inconvenient Truth, could be shown in schools said it contains nine scientific “errors”.
Mr Justice Burton said the government could still send the film to schools – if accompanied by guidance giving the other side of the argument.

He was ruling on an attempt by a Kent school governor to ban the film from secondary schools.

The Oscar-winning film was made by former US Vice-President Al Gore.

Mr Justice Burton said he had no complaint about Gore’s central thesis that climate change was happening and was being driven by emissions from humans. However, the judge said nine statements in the film were not supported by mainstream scientific consensus.

In his final verdict, the judge said the film could be shown as long as updated guidelines were followed.

These say teachers should point out controversial or disputed sections.

Without the guidance, updated after the case was launched, the government would have been breaking the law, the judge said.

The government has sent the film to all secondary schools in England, and the administrations in Wales and Scotland have done the same.

    The film won two Oscars.

    ‘Landmark victory’

Mr Justice Burton told London’s High Court that distributing the film without the guidance to counter its “one-sided” views would breach education laws.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families was not under a duty to forbid the film, provided it was accompanied by the guidance, he said.

“I conclude that the claimant substantially won this case by virtue of my finding that, but for the new guidance note, the film would have been distributed in breach of sections 406 and 407 of the 1996 Education Act”, he said.”
    ==============================================

Looks like it is pretty darned clear that the Judge said the film could be shown, as long as there is guidance provided with respect to NINE items….

I cant find where Gore lied about anything.

Just more mush for the munchkins…

    M4 not a good weapon?

    Monday, October 12, 2009; 2:59 AM

WASHINGTON — In the chaos of an early morning assault on a remote U.S. outpost in eastern Afghanistan, Staff Sgt. Erich Phillips’ M4 carbine quit firing as militant forces surrounded the base. The machine gun he grabbed after tossing the rifle aside didn’t work either.

Despite the military’s insistence that they do, a small but vocal number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq has complained that the standard-issue M4 rifles need too much maintenance and jam at the worst possible times.

Perhaps in your feeble minded thought process. This was in England. In England court rulings are not political spin… The court identified nine errors…. Those errors were rectified by guidance for teachers to explain to the students. No political spin there… Gore isnt running for political office in England… And, neither is the judge, IIRC….

Some say Government requirements to produce certain legal documents in English and Spanish are very costly to business, and waste time, and inconvenient. While there is some cost involved, and it does take some time to translate documents, I believe that if America is to be a United and Inclusive country, we must begin the process now, through the use of common languages.

Certainly, a Liberal American newspaper like the Wichita Eagle would be supportive of this, by designing their Blogs to be inclusive for all.

    Chas,
The real problem with investing in gold is that when you buy it, you pay a smelting fee (sometimes as high as 20% over spot price), and when you sell it, you also pay the smelting fee. The spot price has to increase phenomenally to break even, let alone make a profit. And it’s a market that has real problems with fraud. Besides, gold being a material that has very few uses other than hopefully being valuable, there is nothing except market psychology to stabilize the price. People who invest more than they can afford to lose in gold are playing with fire.

When did the ‘Gold(Au) market’ crash last?

Personally I’ve been buying gold for over a year. It’s not an investment, it’s a hedge. It will never be worth nothing.

It’s a hedge because it is an accurate barometer of the worth of the dollar. It’s not an investment because you never make anything on gold if you take inflation into consideration.

You can make money on the commodities market with gold but you also can lose.

But also remember that Nixon destroyed anything that remained of actual value in our dollar when he took us completely off of the bi-metal standard. Roosevelt first stole it, then Nixon (bi-partison like) killed it completely. And they did all of this by “executive order”, without any of our consent.

Article 1 Section 10 of the US Constitution told us what was to be money and ONLY to be money.

    Donnyboy,
Your google search leaves a lot to be desired. Dentistry is not a major consumer of gold. You can still request a gold crown, but the vast majority are made of non-precious alloys these days. Gold pretty much priced itself out of the dental market back in the late ’70’s. Electronics and medicine use gold in such infinitesimal amounts that they constitute almost none of the market. Jewelry and coins are the heavy markets, and are probably the only reason gold still has value. The jewelry market is heavily influenced by fashion- not a particularly stable thing to invest your retirement fund in, and an even more expensive form than bullion, and less marketable for gold content. Only a few countries still issue gold coins, pretty much as novelties as the world gold supply is far too small to base its economy on. It all boils down to gold being worth only as much as a buyer is willing to pay, and as a luxury item, it can fall with the economy. Given the high fees charged to buy and sell it, small amounts of gold make a bad investment. Now if you have a few million or so you can afford to play around with, it can be fun. We can always use more fun. Your chances of making a profit are about the same as in Vegas.

Ham sandwiches will rot in a few days and a gold piece will be here for thousands of years. That’s why it’s a precious metal.

23% of Americans plan to donate money for breast cancer research. But what these donors may not understand is that the Komen for the Cure organization has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Planned Parenthood abortion mills, obviously planning to donate more money which will promote more abortions, and that abortion is a major risk factor for breast cancer.
Under proposed new health care legislation, Planned Parenthood further plans to establish new in-school clinics to refer schoolgirls for abortions, paid for by taxpayers, without parental notification or consent. Abortion of a young girl’s first pregnancy causes a particularly high risk of later breast cancer.

Georgia abortionist quack Daniel E. McBrayer, 58, stuck a woman in the face in front of her two young children in a traffic incident Monday, and was charged with battery. The victim claimed he had cut her off nearly causing an accident, and later when she was stopped at a red light, he left his vehicle, approached the driver’s window, and struck her. The dangerous quack only turned himself in to police after he learned that the victim managed to take down his license number before going for medical treatment.
McBrayer was disciplined by the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners in 2001 for committing illegal second-trimester abortions at his Marietta, GA office, placing his medical license on probation for 2 years.

Elyse J. Mamino, of Belleville, IL pleaded guilty Friday to attempted murder and was sentenced by Judge Richard Aguirre to merely the minimum of six years in prison, for attempting to drown her newborn daughter Victoria in a toilet in Columbia, IL last year.
Mamino also gave birth in a toilet in St. Clair County in 2007, but that infant was found dead and decomposed earlier this year in a chest of drawers in the basement of Mamino’s Belleville apartment. No murder or abuse of a corpse charge is yet filed in that infant’s death.
    - – -

Patrick McCabe Sr. refused to call for emergency assistance after his teenage daughter gave birth on a toilet at the family’s North Plainfield, NJ home in 2005, and the infant later died. Mr. McCabe has been sentenced to 5 years, after pleading guilty to manslaughter rather than the murder charge previously filed against him.

So why doesn’t Obama just tell Congress to rush it through? Obama had no problem telling Congress to rush through the biggest spending bill in American History. Obama had no problem telling Congress to rush through healthcare.

So I guess Obama really doesn’t care about the gays.

That’s the only conclusion I can come up with.

Interestingly, more Americans favor tax cuts than healthcare reform:

a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that most voters continue to favor middle class tax cuts over spending more money for health care reform.
Thirty-three percent (33%) of voters say new spending for health care reform is more important. But 54% rate middle class tax cuts as the priority over more health care spending. Thirteen percent (13%) aren’t sure.

These findings are identical to ones just before Congress’ August recess and prior to President Obama’s effort to jump start his health care reform initiative with a nationally televised speech to Congress.

That soccer mom is one good reason I’d like to see MMPI’s administered to those seeking gun licenses, and those who fail denied permits. We can get by without having armed crazies running loose. Packing heat at a kid’s soccer match is noticeably over the edge unless you’re living in South America or England. Maybe if she’d been arrested at the time, she’d have been ordered into treatment and she wouldn’t be dead now. But no, the crazies want their guns.

Subpoenas issued in probe of ex-Interior secretary…

A grand jury investigates whether Gale Norton broke federal laws in overseeing a process that awarded lucrative leases to Shell, which later hired her. Prosecutors will review company records.

Reporting from Washington – A federal grand jury has subpoenaed records from Royal Dutch Shell PLC as part of a Justice Department investigation into corruption allegations against former Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton, according to sources close to the investigation.

The subpoenas and the inclusion of a grand jury are signs of escalation in the investigation, which focuses on whether Norton violated a federal law barring government officials from overseeing any process that could financially benefit a company that the official is negotiating with for future employment.

Investigators are also examining whether Norton broke a broader federal law that bars government officials from denying “honest services” — violating the public trust by, for example, steering government business to favored firms or friends.

David I am really proud of this justice dept. Now when they have finished with this investigation maybe they can look at Diane Feinsteins husbands million in ‘no bid’ contracts awarded while she was head of the committee awarding them.
    ————-
    From the Washington Post:

“Senator’s husband cashes in on crisis”
“On the day the new Congress convened this year, Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced legislation to route $25 billion in taxpayer money to a government agency that had just awarded her husband’s real estate firm a lucrative contract to sell foreclosed properties at compensation rates higher than the industry norms.”

“Mrs. Feinstein’s intervention on behalf of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was unusual: the California Democrat isn’t a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs with jurisdiction over FDIC; and the agency is supposed to operate from money it raises from bank-paid insurance payments – not direct federal dollars.”

“Documents reviewed by The Washington Times show Mrs. Feinstein first offered Oct. 30 to help the FDIC secure money for its effort to stem the rise of home foreclosures. Her letter was sent just days before the agency determined that CB Richard Ellis Group (CBRE) – the commercial real estate firm that her husband Richard Blum heads as board chairman – had won the competitive bidding for a contract to sell foreclosed properties that FDIC had inherited from failed banks.”

And all the dems can do is go after a past sec of the interior and Haliburton. Meanwhile Feinstein goes about business as usual. Fleecing the taxpayers to line her families pockets. And don’t forget Charlie Rangel.

    —————-
And of course lets go after Pelosi next.

“House Speaker Pelosi Accused of Earmarking Funds for Husband’s Benefit, Media Mum
By Noel Sheppard (Bio | Archive)
    May 8, 2007 – 12:00 ET

If Democrats had accused former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Illinois) last year of earmarking funds that could help real estate investments owned by his wife, would the media have reported it?

Probably on the front pages of every newspaper, and as the lead story of all of the evening news programs, right?

Well, the Associated Press published a story Monday about current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) possibly earmarking funds that would benefit her husband’s investments around the San Francisco Bay. Yet, the media showed virtually no interest (emphasis added):

Republicans are accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of including a provision in a water redevelopment bill that could benefit property her husband owns in San Francisco.
Republicans raised the issue more than two weeks after the bill passed the House.

Pelosi’s measure would authorize 25 (m) million dollars to improve San Francisco port areas, and also would put some areas off limits to navigation so cruise ships could dock.

Her investor husband gets rental income from four buildings in a nearby commercial district.

Even though this originally appeared on the AP wire at 4:38 PM EST Monday, it appears that none of the cable or broadcast television networks bothered to share the story with their viewers.

Furthermore, although most newspapers did run the story at their respective websites Monday evening, I have been able to identify only one major print publication that bothered to include this in Tuesday’s edition, the New York Post (emphasis added):

“The appearance is obviously not good, and she needs to be forthcoming about how this impacts her financial interest,” Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) told The Post.

Pelosi’s office confirmed that she got the provision included in a water-resources bill, which passed the House April 19.

But House financial-disclosure documents reveal that Pelosi’s husband, Paul, owns four commercial real-estate properties near the Embarcadero, which is home to many restaurants and hotels.

The properties earn combined rental income of more than $3 million.

One of the properties is 5,400 feet away from the redevelopment site.”

But wait the justice dept is busy with Norton.

    Hypocrites.

I’ve advocated a national healthcare plan for the better part of 30 years now, and I’m not about to settle for some meaningless bill that only improves the health of the insurance industry. As more and more of us citizens join the cause, the chances of anything less than full single-payer coverage being acceptable are fading fast. It’s become too important an issue for too many people to be ignored or propagandized or bought off any longer. Industry bucks are buying fewer votes than ever, and we will have a healthcare plan that works or we will have a whole new set of congresspeople to get it done.

2 Minnesota service members killed in Afghanistan
By STEVE KARNOWSKI Associated Press Writer , The Associated Press – MINNEAPOLIS

A Marine and an Army National Guard soldier from Minnesota have died in combat in Afghanistan, relatives and the Department of Defense said Monday.

Marine Staff Sgt. Aaron J. Taylor, 27, was killed Friday by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in Helmand province, said his father, Clifford Taylor, of rural Two Harbors.

Minnesota National Guard Spc. George W. Cauley, 24, of Walker, died Saturday after being wounded when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device Wednesday in Helmand province, according to the Defense Department.

Clifford Taylor said his son was born in Duluth, grew up in Bovey and graduated with honors in 2000 from Greenway High School in Coleraine, where he was a band member and manager for the hockey team.

Aaron Taylor had been in the Marines for eight years and had been in Afghanistan for about six weeks. He also had served a tour of duty in Iraq, his father said. They last spoke a week ago.

“He was telling me that they were doing good things over there,” Clifford Taylor said. “They had built some schools. He was new to the unit when he came on board, but they say that everybody just liked him and they were all glad to work with him. And he was very proud to be serving with this group of men. They all knew their jobs and they were professionals all the way.”

Aaron Taylor was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and had recently bought a house in Temecula, Calif., near the base, his father said.

“He had spontaneous wit and was a very caring individual,” Clifford Taylor said of his son. “Very intelligent. His goal was to be promoted to gunnery sergeant before his third enlistment. I think he would have made it. It’s tough to do.”

Aaron Taylor’s body was flown to Dover Air Force base in Delaware on Monday. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Obama gives aid and comfort to the enemy

    October 12, 2009

President Obama ’s getting the Nobel Peace Prize practically guarantees that our troops in Afghanistan will continue to get shafted and killed in greater numbers than they would under normal circumstances.

Anybody who doesn’t understand that President Obama is giving aid and comfort to our nation’s enemies in time of war obviously isn’t paying attention.

He has placed our troops in Afghanistan at a deadly disadvantage with his new rules of engagement.

Unless our troops in combat are absolutely certain that no civilians are present, our troops cannot be provided with artillery or air support.

And if any civilians are present or appear on the scene when our troops are engaged in combat with Taliban forces, our troops are required to break contact and retreat.

How would you like to be an American soldier or Marine fighting for your life with restrictions like those in place?

    Say, Amway, here’s some info on a possible M-16/M-4 replacement, the H & K 416:

    Looking for reliability
The key to the 416’s reliability lies in its gas system. It looks like the M4 carbine on the outside, but on the inside, H&K has replaced Colt’s “gas-tube” system with the short-stroke piston system.

This eliminates carbon being blown back into the chamber, which leads to fouling problems, and greatly reduces parts wear created by super-heated gases used to cycle the weapon. The result, experts say, is that the 416 is more reliable, easier to maintain and has a longer parts life than the M4.

“It was a phenomenal gun,” said former Delta member and current H&K consultant Larry Vickers. “In my opinion it has the best gas system on the market for a shoulder-fired autoloading weapon. It’s lightweight, very efficient; it’s clean and has minimal heat transfer.”

Army Will Open Competition for Carbine – As Soon As Congress Passes Budget

Soldiers could have a new carbine by 2012, unless a Congressional budget impasse slows it down.

The Army requested $9.9 million for fiscal 2010, money needed to start the solicitation process for a competition that stands to draw dozens of small arms companies waiting for the chance to unseat the M4 as the Army’s primary soldier weapon.

Here’s an in-depth look at the Politics of the M16/M4 replacement controversy:

H&K replaced Colt’s “gas-tube” system with a short-strokepiston system that eliminates carbon blow-back into the chamber, andalso reduces the heat problem created by the super-hot gases used tocycle the M4. Other changes were made to the magazine, barrel, et. al.The final product was an M4 with a new upper receiver and magazine, plusH&K’s 4-rail system of standard “Picatinny Rails” on the top, bottom, and both sides for easy addition of anything a Special Operator mightrequire.

In exhaustive tests with the help of Delta Force, the upgraded weaponwas subjected to mud and dust without maintenance, and fired day afterday. Despite this treatment, the rifle showed problems in only 1 of15,000 rounds – fully 3 times the reliability shown by the M4 in US Armystudies.

If you want to be the envy of the neighborhood and work, you might want to consider planting a Sun Gold Hybrid, Sunsugar FT Hybrid, or Sweet Gold FT Hybrid from Tomato Growers Supply. These are bright orange cherry size tomatos. When you bite into them your first thought is you are eating a rare fruit – very sweet. Not Tomato. But they are tomato’s of the highest quality highest in vitamin content than any other. People will be amazed and want more. You cannot buy these in the store. You have to grown them. You cannot buy the plants locally. You have to order the seeds. But these are superb in salads and just snacking (they don’t always make it from the garden to the house).

I could post for hours. The peppers in this catalog are great and most varied I’ve ever seen. But I have to at least mention the Cisineros Tomatillo. I’ve found growing Tomatillo’s difficult and frustrating. Lot’s of work, for little gain. ANd it takes many to put up good salsa and preserves. Anyway, the brand mentioned is a star performer – very productive plant with lot’s of tasty fruit.

He encontrado Tomatillo creciente difícil y frustrando. Porción de trabajo, para poco aumento. Y toma muchos para poner la buenos salsa y cotos. De todas formas, la marca de fábrica mencionada es un ejecutante de la estrella – planta muy productiva con la porción de fruta sabrosa. Blue Dog Coalition
the group has set a record pace for fundraising this year through its political action committee, surpassing other congressional leadership PACs in collecting more than $1.1 million through June. More than half the money came from the health-care, insurance and financial services industries, marking a notable surge in donations from those sectors compared with earlier years, according to an analysis by the Center for Public Integrity.

A look at career contribution patterns also shows that typical Blue Dogs receive significantly more money — about 25 percent — from the health-care and insurance sectors than other Democrats

Most of the major corporations and trade groups in those sectors are regular contributors to the Blue Dog PAC. They include drugmakers such as Pfizer and Novartis; insurers such as WellPoint and Northwestern Mutual Life; and industry organizations such as America’s Health Insurance Plans. The American Medical Association also has been one of the top contributors to individual Blue Dog members over the past 20 years.
Baucus, a senator from a sparsely populated and conservative Western state who is serving his sixth term, stands out for the rising tide of
health-care contributions to his campaign committee, Friends of Max Baucus, and his political-action committee, Glacier PAC. Baucus collected $3 million from the health and insurance sectors from 2003 to 2008, about 20 percent of the total, data show. Less than 10 percent of the money came from Montana.

Examples from Baucus’s Glacier PAC include $5,000 from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America and $2,500 from lobbyists with U.S. Strategies, which represents numerous health-care firms. Overall, half of the $110,000 in donations to the PAC from April to June came from health-care firms and lobbyists, including Schering-Plough, Medtronic and New York Life.

Well Jed there are several manufacturers now of short-piston AR rifles, including many in the USA.

Our troops should have the best, regardless of where it is made, but Congress doesn’t care.

Congress won’t get off their a $ $ and authorize the RFP to pick a new rifle and the funds to buy them.

You think wrong, Johnson… That is pecisely the response one would expect… no demand… for a preacher to make in response to pure EVIL… Like YOU… Sheet Head!!

It’s really quite sad. If it weren’t so disruptive.

We’ve got “Regular” who lives in his sister’s basement on our dime creating multiple personalities for himself here.

  385. Posted October 12, 2009 at 10:48 pm | Permalink

Now when “Regular” came here as “JM” we were told a story of a man who had lost his wife and kid.

Of course, “Regular” has never had a wife or a kid. But everyone forgets that in the blizzard of identities he constructs for himself and this forum.

Mark my words, soon you will see the hypocritical posts from the Phony Preacher about Christmas and his phony wishes & blessings of good cheer.

Remember his foul mouthed, HI-CAPPED, personal attacks posted right here on the Wee Blog, when you read his wishes of glad tidings and joy.

  387. Posted October 12, 2009 at 10:55 pm | Permalink

Well see, there it is again “Jim”.

I’ve met Chas. I know several people who have met Chas.

But we have these folks who post here like you and “American way” and “Anti” who nobody seems to have ever met.

“A group of liberal Democrats has already introduced legislation in the House of Representatives to prohibit funding for any troop increase”

So much for “Afganistan is the right war”
It is time to either move in, and complete the military mission with all possible expediency,or get the hell out. If indeed it is all the things that Presdident Obama said in March, and all those things Candidate Obama stated, then it;’s time to get the job done. If not, admit it, and get the hell out of there. Oneor the other. No half ways
